Location
Pierrefitte-sur-Seine is a commune in the Île-de-France region of Seine-Saint-Denis, on the edge of Val-d'Oise. A small seigneury dependent on the Saint-Denis abbey from the 9th century onwards, Pierrefitte-sur-Seine was a farming village and gypsum and plaster producer until the mid-19th century.

After the arrival of the railroad in 1856, the town became a holiday resort for the capital's inhabitants, and its industry developed (curtains, railway equipment), but it retained a genuine market-gardening and horticultural activity. Urbanization intensified during the 20th century, first in the form of pavilions, then in the form of large housing estates. Today, Pierrefitte-sur-Seine has just under 30,000 inhabitants. However, many green spaces have been preserved and, at the beginning of the 21st century, the Archives nationales site was created to preserve post-revolutionary documents.

The painter Maurice Utrillo, who spent his childhood in Pierrefitte-sur-Seine, immortalized the town in several paintings. A cultural space dedicated to him preserves and presents many of his works. All the more reason to visit the town during a stay in the Paris region.
