Description of the area
Les Remparts :Rempart of the northern district of Donzenac known as of Puy Broch (Puy Supérieur), with its still discernible way of guard.
As of XIIIème century and even before, the city with the narrow one in the strengthened enclosure of the _ Castle _ developed towards north thus creating the district of Puy Broch.
The Bell-tower : Bell-tower of Donzenac, Gothic style (XIIIème century) classified historic monument. One recognizes to him a great resemblance with the bell-tower of the cathedral of Tulle of which it could have been used as outline.
The rest of the church was entirely rebuilt in 1832; it houses a 13th century enamelled shrine.
In the year 1000, there was already a church dedicated to Saint Martin, probably in the same place.
Chapelle Saint Michel : Old cemetery containing a small 13th century chapel dedicated to Saint Michel. Its surrounding wall is partially built with sarcophagi.
There were five burial places in Donzenac of which the oldest, not far from the new cemetery (road of Allassac) was perhaps pre-Christian.
Porte Maleguise : Porte du Tilleul (formerly Maleguise), destroyed during the wars of Religions, probably in July 1577 by Geoffroy de Vivant, lieutenant of the King of navarre, future Henri IV. Donzenac had remained catholic in a majority protestant environment.
In 1572, the lord of Donzenac was none other than the queen of France: Catherine de Médicis _.
Convent of the Cordeliers : Convent of the Cordeliers (Franciscan Order) founded at the beginning of XIIIème century under the auspices of the lords of Comborn and Malemort. It was sold as national property during the revolution.
A drawing from 1810 shows the beauty of its gothic church (north side) of which almost nothing remains.
Chapel of the White Penitents : Chapel of the Confraternity of the White Penitents, built in 1677 on the vestiges of the room of weapons of the Castle of Robertie which ensured before the XVth century the defense of the southern ramparts of Donzenac.
Castle of the Barons of Donzenac : Façade restored with the rebirth of a castle many times reshaped, on the culminating point of the oldest district of Donzenac.
It is probably the Castle of the barons of Donzenac and perhaps the oldest dwelling of the city.
The Pans of Travassac : In a country with the forms, the colors and the astonishing sonorities, the pans of Travassac propose to you:
- An original and magic walk in the heart of a nature shaped by the hand of the man during more than 3 centuries... with pitches favourable to the strong sensations,
- A discovery of the trade of slate quarryman and its secular techniques... with the reconstitution of a building site of the beginning of the century in activity,
- A journey into the past of a village and its slate quarries... with a descent to the bottom of a slate seam, in the heart of an underground gallery housing a small museum.
The House of the XIIIth century : Registered as a historical monument in 1967. This house, which is the most known of the medieval houses of Donzenac, is the only one to have been the object of an important phase of study and restoration.
The building currently comprises three levels including a cellar, semi-buried because of the declivity of the ground. It counted a fourth level, disappeared at an unknown date and replaced by a roof.
The main facade, made of a beautiful sandstone structure, has an arcade and three geminated bays. The first floor position of one of them is a rarity in civil architecture. The characteristics of this facade indicate the middle of the XIIIth century.
The two other visible walls, made of schist rubble, bear the traces of the rearrangements of the end of the XVth century, and even of the following centuries.
Chalets for 2/4 persons of 22 m² including 6m² of covered terrace, bedroom with double bed, shower room with WC, living room with sofa bed and equipped kitchenette . One chalet (n°6) is equipped for people with reduced mobility.

For this 1st try in camping, nothing to say! Simplicity, efficiency, cleanliness and calm! We were expecting a small 22 m2 accommodation for 2 people, so it was perfect! especially as the weather was fine and we were able to have our meals on the small terrace. The staff attached to the town hall is attentive, benevolent, smiling and respectful. Walks, hikes, villages are to discover nearby, so perfect! Nearby, the bowlers are present, a nice place where we can exchange, have a drink, and discuss the region ... in all sympathy (Better than in town DONZENAC)!
