Location
Located in the heart of the South-West, Toulouse rightly deserves its name of "pink city". The pinkish brick color of its buildings and mansions lends the city an undeniable charm.
Renowned for its lively atmosphere, Toulouse is also a city of Art and History, with an important architectural and artistic heritage that has been magnificently preserved over the centuries. You'll be enchanted to discover its historic center, brimming with Renaissance townhouses. A true marvel! This privilege makes Toulouse the richest city in France in terms of Renaissance mansions. These prestigious residences, built in the 16th century by wealthy woad merchants, bear witness to the city's heyday in the woad trade. This dye plant was then cultivated in the surrounding plains of the Lauragais region. Among the town's finest Renaissance buildings are the Hôtel d'Assézat, now home to the Fondation Bemberg, a private museum housing a collection of paintings; the Hôtel de Bernuy, flanked by an octagonal tower; the Hôtel du Vieux-Raisin; and the Hôtel de Clary or Hôtel de Pierre.
Place du Capitole is the very heart of the city. This lively square is surrounded by fine buildings such as the Capitole, a 16th-century edifice housing the Town Hall and Theatre. Behind this prestigious eight-columned building stands a 16th-century keep, the former Archives Tower, now the headquarters of the tourist office.
Then it's on to the remarkable religious monuments of the old town: the Saint-Sernin basilica and its octagonal bell tower, a masterpiece of Romanesque art; the Jacobins convent complex, a jewel of Languedoc Gothic art, with its beautiful brick church and cloister.
The attractive banks of the Garonne, notably the Promenade Henri Martin and the Daurade district, are ideal for strolling and sunbathing.
The lively streets of the historic center are lined with cafés and boutiques. Ideal for shopping or sipping a drink on one of the many café terraces. In Toulouse, party-goers and nightlife enthusiasts have plenty to enjoy with the many restaurants, theaters, theaters, bars, pubs and nightclubs. What's more, as soon as night falls, the buildings, monuments and residences of the old town are adorned with beautiful lights. A superb "by night" showcase for the beauty of Toulouse's heritage.
A city of art and history, Toulouse is also a forward-looking and innovative hub, with its aeronautical and space centers. Certain aspects of these two major fields are made accessible to the public, with the Cité de l'Espace offering interactive exhibitions and shows, and the Airbus workshops offering guided tours of the new Airbus A380.
