Description of the
"XIBEROA"region
Although it is the most typical of the Basque provinces, Soule is also the smallest and least populated. It corresponds to a valley, the Saison valley (tributary of the Gave de Pau) which stretches from the Pic d'Orhy in the south, the highest Basque peak, to the Hôpital Saint Blaise in the south.
Soule is a mountainous region of steep valleys, deep forests and Gorges de Kakuetta - Pays Basque, populated by shepherds and their flocks. It's the region of Espadrilles and ewe's milk cheese, of an intact Basque culture of traditions, song and dance, ....
You'll love Soule, its hiking, its authenticity, its architecture similar to that of neighboring Béarn, its heritage, Romanesque art and typical chapels isolated in the heart of the mountains.
