Famous for its eponymous viaduct, which is no longer in use, the commune of Millau is located in the heart of a magnificent and preserved environment, in the Parc Naturel Régional des Grandes Causses. Cultural above all, this charming destination promises its visitors a real plunge into history.

Nestling in the natural setting of the Grandes Causses, Millau amazes holidaymakers passing through its walls for its character, authenticity and gentle way of life. Just at the foot of the Larzac, this nature destination par excellence is rich in more than 2000 years of history. Labelled a City of Art and History, this is above all a city on a human scale, tirelessly inviting visitors to stroll and discover its most beautiful corners on foot. A city of leather and skins, Millau has a "Métiers d'Art" (Crafts and Trades) area which brings together more than thirty craftsmen, plastic sculptors, ceramists, instrument makers, glass artists, specialists in turned wood and, above all, leather craftsmen. For if there is one thing that has made Millau's reputation for years, apart from its viaduct, it is the quality of its luxury gloves, prized by the greatest fashion houses.

Millau is above all a heritage, and not the least important one! To contemplate the city from above, head for the top of the Tower of the King of Aragon and the Belfry. If the first, square and massive, was built over a 12th century palace, the second, which crowns the Tower of the King of Aragon, was completed at the end of the 17th century. To enjoy the terraces of these towers, you will have to climb no less than 210 steps, but we assure you that the view from the top of the Belfry is well worth the candle, offering spectators a breathtaking panorama of the maze of alleys that characterises Millau as well as its famous Viaduct and the valleys of the Tarn. And if the visit is worthwhile by day, we also recommend you to do it at night during the summer period, by torchlight for a unique discovery of the half-sleeping city! But if there is one monument inseparable from the history of the town, it is its viaduct. The highest viaduct in Europe, the Millau Viaduct is one of the stars of the Aveyron, thanks to its unique architecture, which took more than 13 years of study. A veritable banner of "made in France" know-how, this bridge with its aerial structure seems to float in the sky of Millau. Accessible from the A75 motorway but also from the heart of Millau, it has a belvedere as well as an explorer's trail, perfect for learning all about the secrets of this giant of concrete and steel. Flying over the viaduct by paraglider or hang-glider, quad biking around the viaduct, discovering it by canoe or boat from the Tarn: there are hundreds of ways to tame it according to your desires.

Finally many other places in the surroundings of Millau are worth a visit: the Dourbie Gorges are perfect for swimming or white water activities, while the wonderful Cité de Pierres in Montpellier-le-Vieux is ideal for a hike or a via-ferrata session to discover its enchanting limestone rocks. The nearby town of Roquefort is well worth a look for its cellars with delicious star cheese from all the good restaurants in the region, when the Archaeological Site of La Graufesenque, the panorama from the Puncho d'Agast, the neighbouring towns of Séverac-le-Château and La Pierre, the Aven Armand, the Grotte Rose and the shady banks of the Tarn will complete the inventory of sites that you can easily visit while passing through Millau, on foot, on horseback or by bike!
