Built in the middle of the 18th century to grind wheat to make flour with the power of water, it is now privatized and is not open to visitors. You can still admire it from the street, and take advantage of your visit in this area to push the door of the Écomusée du Marais Salant. You will discover the history of salt-growing, its salt marshes from their origin to their current exploitation. In addition, you will have the opportunity to taste and buy salt, fleur de sel, salicorns, oysters and many other typical local products. The second unmissable site of your stay: Fort de Grouin. Transformed into a dwelling, this remnant of a stocky military fortress dates back to the middle of the 18th century. It is located in the heart of the protected area of the Conservatoire du Littoral, and is renowned for its truly magical panoramas of the ocean. The salt marshes and Sainte-Catherine Church are finally added to the list of things to see during your vacation in Loix.
The ideal way to discover Loix and its surroundings is to opt for walks, cycling or horseback riding according to your wishes. Two cycle paths cross the town, particularly along the coast towards Fier d'Ars, through the salt marshes and vineyards. Finally, in addition to waterfront walks, Loix offers its visitors the opportunity to relax by the sea, thanks to its unique beach: "Plage du Grouin". Nestled at the very end of the peninsula, it is overlooked by the Fort of Grouin. Ideal for family swimming thanks to its gentle slope and calm waters, this beach is also very popular with sports enthusiasts thanks to its many facilities.
