The small village of Calcatoggio is located in the department of South Corsica, 20 kilometres north of Ajaccio. Bordered by the warm waters of the Gulf of Sagone, this authentic village in the Cinarca valley is 300 metres high and stretches for kilometres along the Mediterranean Sea. Calcatoggio is a landscape dotted with beaches and olive groves that never ceases to charm holidaymakers passing through its walls. In terms of heritage, just like the small emblematic villages of the Isle of Beauty, Calcatoggio has preserved the ruins of two Genoese towers, Ancona and Orcino, which still peacefully watch over the entrance to the village today. On the religious heritage side, the Church of the Annunciation and the Romanesque Chapel of St. Nicholas are among the sites you will have the opportunity to visit.

A preserved village, far from the major tourist centres, visitors will be won over by the peace and quiet that emanates from this characteristic village on the Isle of Beauty. Here, there are no hotels or gigantic concrete walks; nature is queen, abundant and magnificent. The white sandy beaches follow one another for more than 10 kilometres, offering virgin stretches as far as the eye can see for those who wish to put their towels down in front of the sea without being bothered by potential neighbours nearby. From the marvellous Stagone beach, swimmers can indulge in a few leisurely swims, while fans of water sports are spoilt for choice. Catamaran, paragliding, water skiing, wakeboarding, surfing, stand-up paddle, jet-skiing, sailing, scuba diving and many other water sports will delight thrill-seekers. Hikers ? To your sneakers! Through the valleys that border the village, there are many marked itineraries that will allow you to enjoy unforgettable views of the sea, but also to discover the richness of the local flora and fauna, especially on the peaks of Capigliolo, Palmentojo, Parragiola, Tranpitatoju, Castellu Rossu, Paliagi and Pelusella. A must to do? Venture into the Gulf of Liscia to contemplate the splendid panoramas of the Mediterranean!

Finally, it is impossible to visit Corsica without succumbing to the delights of its gastronomy. In the village or on the more touristic and cultural side of Ajaccio, there are many good tables that you will find for an initiation to the island's flavours! On the menu? Brocciu of course, since it is THE emblematic cheese of Corsica, but also figatellu, fiadone, small slippers filled with herbs from the maquis, stuffed squid, ambrucciata, pietra beer, pancakes and chestnut flour cakes, Ajaccio soups and fritters, seafood, sausages and other locally produced wines will delight the whole family for a weekend or a week under the sun of the Île-de-Beauté!
