CAMPSITES CARGÈSE : 

Although its appearance, history and architecture have often earned it comparisons with the most beautiful Greek cities known to date, Cargèse is indeed a French commune. Located in Southern Corsica, this village built by the Greeks in the seventeenth century is today the happiness of holidaymakers, whether they are lovers of idleness, surfers or windsurfers.

1 hour from Ajaccio, Cargèse is as astonishing as it is seductive : crossed by the Esigna stream and the Chiuni river, between the mountains and the plains, this village situated on the western coast of Corsica has all the assets for a perfect holiday in the open air. A small fishing and yachting port steeped in history, each year it attracts many holidaymakers and hikers who come to Cargèse for a "green" holiday. Because if Corsica is known for its beaches, it is also known for its mountain ranges. Thus, a dozen hiking and equestrian itineraries (for all levels) criss-cross the village through coastal paths, valleys, steep paths, neighbouring hamlets, lakes, sheepfolds and waterfalls of the Cargesian hinterland.

High tourist place of Corsica, Cargèse has a strong historical heritage which you will have to discover without reserve. Walking through its narrow streets with white and flowered houses known for their blue shutters, you will discover its monuments, current witnesses of the passage of multiple civilizations on its lands : its first of all Latin Church of the Assumption, bright white, stands proudly facing the sea, overlooking the turquoise water. Opposite it is the Greek Byzantine church of Saint Spyridon, built in the 19th century : just like its neighbour, it deserves the glance thanks to its sumptuous frescos classified as "Historic Monument". Another monument to see : the Greek boat. On the heights of Capizzolu Beach, this carved boat-shaped rock celebrates the arrival of the Greeks in Cargèse in 1676. From the latter, there is a magnificent view of the sea, not to be missed under any pretext. Testifying to the history that has marked the Corsican shores, the Genoese towers have bordered the coast of the Isle of Beauty for hundreds of years. Intended to protect the inhabitants of the island from a possible danger, they allow today's visitors to contemplate sumptuous panoramas on the sea and the Corsican lands. The village of Cargèse is lucky enough to have two of them : the Orchinu tower and the Omigna tower. During your walks, equipped with walking shoes, hats and sun protection (it is not a legend, the Corsican sun is generous in summer), you can join these towers via a road from the village. With family or friends, we assure you that the walk is worth it : in the middle of the day as at sunset, the landscape is breathtaking on the Gulf of Sagonne.

Still less known than its neighbours Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio, Calvi, Ajaccio or Bastia, Cargèse is nevertheless full of assets for those who wish to spend pleasant holidays in the sun in a dream setting : it is also the ideal destination to enjoy relaxing afternoons far from the big crowded cities. Made up of several bays, the coast of Cargèse is absolutely magnificent. There are 5 beaches : Chiuni, Menacina, Stagnoli, Capizzolu and Peru beaches will enchant you with their beauty and preserved nature. Fine sand, turquoise water, transparent sea and dream decor : what more is needed for perfect afternoons of idleness under the sun? In addition to these beaches, many coves line the coastline : take time to stroll along the coastal paths to find the perfect place to lay your towel, amidst coves each more blue than the other. Of course, the beaches of Cargèse lend themselves ideally to a wide range of nautical activities : sailing, surfing, towed buoys, jet skiing, renting boats, pedal boats, kayaking, flyfish or canyoning... The coast is also the perfect place for diving : in clear waters in the middle of fish, you will discover the sea urchins, the caves, the intact flora and the red rocks which compose the maritime landscape of Cargèse. To discover at best all the wonders of the Corsican coast, why not embark for a boat cruise ? From the port of Cargèse, you will take the direction of the calanques of Piana and Capo Rosso, stroll through the Gulf of Porto and can discover the faults of the Natural Reserve of Scandola, classified by UNESCO...
