A village made of old Provençal stones, an ideal location in the heart of the green valleys, a palpable charm and an astonishing beauty: this is what awaits you if it is in Saint-Ambroix that you spend your holidays.

On the borders of the Ardèche, about twenty kilometres from the very emblematic city of Alès, the medieval city of Saint-Ambroix excels in the art of making its lucky visitors succumb. Between Ardèche and Provence, watered by the Cèze river, Saint-Ambroix has, as we may say, definitely everything to please. With a rich heritage marked by its history, Saint-Ambroix, a commercial centre dotted with wide boulevards and imposing fountains, owes its important influence to its fairs, renowned in the region. From its prosperous past, the municipality today preserves a splendid architectural heritage that you will have to discover. First of all, the Dugas chapel is to be seen: perched on its rocky plateau 40 metres high, this chapel, which looks like a fortress overlooking the city, offers its visitors an incomparable panoramic view of the whole of Saint-Ambroix. The Moulin Bonnet is worth a visit for its old machine rooms, as is the Tour Guisquet, a round watchman perched on the heights of the city, which also reveals sublime views of the village, the Dugas and the surrounding mountains. Also worth seeing are the three successive enclosures: the first ramparts with three gates, the 14th century enclosure flanked by towers whose remains are visible along rue de l'église and boulevard Portalet, and the last one, destroyed by order of Richelieu. Stroll along its beautiful steep alleys dotted with houses with high decorated windows; with its stairs, its old spinning mills, its courtyards, its remains of a primitive castle and its squares where it is nice to wander, Saint-Ambroix will easily charm you.

Do you want to swim? The municipality has three summer swimming sites along the Cèze river, at Beau-Rivage (which bears its name well), at the Moulin du roc and at Pont de Saint-Victor. More tempted by a walk in the open air? Saint-Ambroix has no less than thirty marked trails for all levels of walking and all desires, to allow you to discover in a few hours some of the most elegant faces of the Cévennes region and the upper Cèze valley. The latter is also the scene of many water sports activities in the sunny days, such as paddle, canoe or kayak. There are many water hiking routes from Saint-Ambroix, so we can only recommend that you push your visit 30 kilometres further north towards Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, known for its famous bridge over the Ardèche and its meanders, a privileged site for canoeing.

Finally, it is impossible to stay in Saint-Ambroix without taking the opportunity to explore the four corners of the region and discover its most beautiful treasures: the Pont du Gard (55 kilometres away), the gorges of the Ardèche, the Grand Site de l'Aven d'Orgnac (27 kilometres away), the arenas of Nîmes (61 kilometres away), or the grotte de la Cocalière (7 kilometres away) are among the unmissable ones to discover during your visit to Saint-Ambroix.
