The castle and its Pyrenean museum are among the must-see attractions during your visit to Lourdes: with its thick walls steeped in more than 1000 years of history, this imposing building, classified as a Historic Monument, will dazzle you with its very fine state of preservation. You will love discovering its majestic keep, its harrows and its drawbridge, typical of the defensive architecture of ancient castles. From its high ramparts, you can contemplate a magnificent 360° panorama over all of Lourdes and its surroundings, the sanctuary and the Pyrenees. After visiting this beautiful building and its botanical gardens, visit the Pyrenean Museum to discover the history and culture of the region. Then take the Pic du Jer funicular to admire one of the most beautiful views of the Pyrenees: during this walk, you will have the opportunity to discover some of the most beautiful Pyrenean peaks, but also Tarbes, Pau, the Argelès-Gazots valley and Lourdes below. At the edge of the Pyrenees, Lourdes is a fabulous gateway for ski enthusiasts who, during the winter, can enjoy its proximity to some of the most popular Pyrenean resorts. The slopes of Hautacam, Mongolia or Cauterets will delight fans of skiing, surfing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or dog sledding.
