In the heart of the Ardèche, the village of Lussas, which is bordered by the river to the west, is a real pearl set in a green setting. A natural paradise, as authentic as you could wish, it is the ideal place for a green holiday far from the hustle and bustle of the big cities and the ultra-touristy destinations.
In the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Lussas is one of those little corners of paradise that we would like to preserve forever. About twenty kilometers from Privas, just at the foot of the Coiro, on the edge of the Gras plateau, this town sees its origins go back to ancient times as evidenced by the remains of caves, Neolithic tombs and dolmens (36 have been identified to date), such as the dolmen of Quatre Pierres perched on the hamlet of Mias. If one comes and returns willingly to Lussas, it is undoubtedly for its sweet atmosphere and its authentic character. The Roman era has also left its mark on the village, so, as you walk around, you can discover many Gallo-Roman remains that attest to the glorious past of the village, such as the remains of the Roman bridge over the Auzon, the fortified oppida of Jastres-Nord and Jastres-Sud on the eponymous plateau, or the road to Anthonin (also known as the road of the Helviens) from Alba-la-Romaine, which are among the oldest sites in the region. Also, many are the Latin crosses, calvaries and statues that dot the territory of the town, giving it a charm and an undeniable historical side.
But Lussas is also famous for its vine culture, so you can discover during your walks through the village and its surroundings many plots covered with colorful fruit trees. Every Friday in the early morning, you can attend the market of local producers as well as a night market in summer, the opportunity for you to fill up on the delights of the region. And the Ardèche cuisine is rich in delicacies! On the menu in most of the good local addresses? The crique, a thick chopped potato cake with onions, parsley and eggs, not forgetting the famous bombine (always made with potatoes, we love it!), the mique (did you say potatoes?), the toupi d'Ardèche (needless to say that this is also a potato-based dish...), the cousina (a delicious chestnut soup), the caillette, the local cheeses such as the picodon and the goudoulet, without forgetting of course the sweet delights such as blueberry tarts, bugne ardéchoise and chestnuts (in chestnut cream in particular) whose unique flavours will thrill the taste buds of the whole family.
For the family, several visits are worth the detour in the area. And if you like hiking, you will be served (but after having eaten so many potatoes, you will have the potato... yes? No ? Okay, it was easy)! ! In the direction of Saint-Pons, the village of character of Saint-Laurent-sous-Coiron, Mirabel, via the fun and connected route of Lussas or the Randoland circuit perfect for children, without forgetting the Grotte de Chabanne, there are many sites to visit in the area. And after a little swimming or canoeing on the Ardèche, there's nothing better than a visit to the Lussas animal park where young and old alike can marvel at the llamas, goats, rabbits, birds, chickens, alpacas, pigs, cows and horses... It's a safe bet that your holiday in Lussas will be memorable!
