On the border with the Principality of Andorra, the small village of Aston lies in the heart of a green valley surrounded by the Pyrenees mountains. Its unspoilt environment, its ideal location and its ski resort make it a privileged destination for green tourism.
On the left bank of the river that bears his name, Aston is a small hiking paradise. Shining on the Quioules and Aston valleys, the village is the starting point for many walks, for experienced walkers as well as for Sunday hikers. A few high peaks will satisfy the most sporty, such as the Pic du Thoumasset (2741 metres above sea level) and the Pic du Serrère (2912 metres above sea level). You will be dazzled by the splendour of the high pastures of the Hospitalet and Aston massifs, where Merens horses and Gascony cows roam. On the side of the Pic du Rulhe, it is the Tarascon sheep that graze peacefully, with 50 high-altitude lakes as a backdrop, very fishy and perfect for fishing. The Pond of Larnoum, the one of Laparan, the ones of Cabaillère and Mirabail will constitute perfect spots where you can have lunch with a view, or to immortalize the mountains if you are a photography lover. The neighbouring Principality of Andorra is easily accessible via signposted routes, by the Fontargente pass or by the Beille plateau.
The Beille ski resort, located on the plateau of the same name, is the ideal place to discover the joys of skiing during the winter season, when the mountain is adorned with its thick snow cover. A particularly family-friendly resort, this small Nordic ski resort will offer young and old alike beautiful sporting experiences at an altitude of 1800 metres, with the highest peaks in the Pyrenees as a backdrop. Spread out between 1800 and 2000 metres above sea level, the Nordic domain consists of 14 slopes, for 32 kilometres of excursions on groomed and traced trails on which you can experience cross-country skiing in all its forms. In addition to cross-country skiing, the area is ideal for snowshoeing (4 courses), tobogganing, sleigh rides or biathlon. Do you prefer alpine activities to Nordic sports? Don't worry, the Ax 3 Domaines downhill skiing area is only a few minutes from the village of Aston. With its snowpark, its play areas, its Aig Bag, its long black slopes and its sliding trails in the heart of the Ariège forests, this festive and lively estate will satisfy all your desires.
A place of friendliness par excellence, the resort of Beille also suits all your summer desires, with a wide range of activities for everyone. On the agenda? Mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, canikart, bivouac, canirando, viacorda, whitewater outings... We particularly recommend visiting the splendid Grotte de Niaux, and pushing your excursions a little further towards neighbouring Spain, and more specifically its Alt Pirineu Natural Park, popular for hiking and swimming in its high altitude lakes.
