Small village of the Aveyron located at about thirty kilometers north of Rodez, Conques is one of those places that leave no one indifferent. Labelled as one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in France", this charming town has what it takes to conquer lovers of beautiful stones, as its heritage is so rich, and lovers of tranquillity thanks to its preserved natural setting.

A key stage on the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela, Conques is one of those places perfect for a stay between nature and history. Spread over 30 kilometres between 221 and 663 metres above sea level, the commune borders the Cantal department and is watered by the Ouche and Dourdou rivers. A medieval village, absolutely well preserved, Conques unveils to its visitors an almost thousand-year-old heritage, splendid, like its Romanesque Abbey Church classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. A masterpiece of Romanesque art, the Abbey of Conques was one of the most important centres of art and spirituality in the West, rich in numerous treasures, starting with its tympanum of the Last Judgement, sculpted at the entrance of the building. Although damaged during the Wars of Religion, it has been renovated and is now adorned with new stained glass windows by Pierre Soulages that never cease to amaze visitors. The visit of the two rooms of the Treasure is also a must, to discover the reliquary statue of Saint-Foy, the Treasure of Saint-Foy, a real jewel of medieval goldsmithery celebrated every year in autumn. In Conques, there are no modern buildings, here, medieval architecture is the order of the day and its old half-timbered houses delight visitors. Along the old cobbled streets and superb half-timbered houses with slate roofs, you will find many craftsmen established in the heart of very old houses (cutlers, jewellers, upholsterers, sculptors, painters ...), which will plunge you into the heart of the history of this charming town. The other must-see is the bridge over the Dourdou: easily accessible from the centre of Conques via the Rue Charlemagne (on the GR65) and the Porte du Barry, the bridge over the Dourdou is one of the key stages in any visit to Conques. Beyond the bridge, towards the Sainte-Foy chapel, the Bancarel viewpoint awaits you, an incomparable panorama on the town that you will not fail to immortalize.

Capital stage of the Way of Puy-en-Velay on the Way of Santiago de Compostela, Conques is a real Eden for the amateurs of excursion. During your walks, you will discover the old ramparts and the city gates, the bread ovens and the public fountains, without forgetting the Saint-Roch chapel nestled on its rocky outcrop. You will be able to practise cycling, but also fishing, climbing, speleology, canoeing and kayaking, for refreshing walks during the summer days which will give to these holidays a small air of adventure which we like so much.
