Marked by the history of the Second World War, Ouistreham played an important role in the outcome of this war, becoming, thanks to its Sword Beach, one of the five "D-Day landing beaches". From this past, Ouistreham has preserved a rich heritage that you will absolutely have to discover, notably by visiting the Museum of the N°4 Commando Franco-Britannique (totally dedicated to the D-Day Landings of 6 June 1944), or the Museum of the Atlantic Wall. Located at the mouth of the Orne and the Caen Canal, Ouistreham is the perfect place for outdoor walks. Several magnificent natural sites are worth a look, such as Pointe du Siège, a splendid dune cordon where more than 271 species of remarkable flora and fauna have been identified. Stroll along the quays of the port, climb to the top of the lighthouse (after having climbed 171 steps all the same, but it is the only lighthouse that can be visited in Calvados so the experience is worth it!), rent a rosalie to discover the heart of Ouistreham, and also take the towpath for a superb walk along the canal linking Ouistreham to Caen, for a walking, horse riding or cycling excursion lasting about fifteen kilometres all the same.
