The commune of Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer is located in the Calvados department, in the Normandy region. Right on the edge of the Channel, it is here, on the beach of this discreet seaside resort, that the American and British soldiers landed on June 6th 1944. Because of its history, Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer is very often called "Omaha Beach", and even today, many tourists come here to discover the richness of its past.

For those who would like to follow in the footsteps of the soldiers of the Liberation, there are a whole host of sites not to be missed in Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, starting with the American cemetery, where 9387 soldiers who fell for freedom are buried, and which has become a must-see over the years, as well as the Omaha Beach Memorial Museum. With a huge collection of objects, weapons and uniforms used during the Second World War, this museum is a must-see, offering you a total immersion in the heart of the Liberation with a large number of vehicles and period collections. On the seafront, you can discover the Monument Signal between Avenue de la Libération and Rue Bernard Anquetil commemorating the D-Day landings, while the site of Ruquet located not far away is worth the detour both for the discovery of its bunker and for the panorama that it allows to discover the sea. And how can you miss the Les Braves monument: located on the sand, this monument reveals long poetic metal sails all raised to the sky, and was inaugurated in 2004 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Normandy Landings.

The sea: this is precisely what makes the charm of Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer. If its beach is classified as a Grand Site National because of its major historical interest, its dune moor is classified and owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral. On foot or by bike, depending on the itinerary, you can walk along the coast towards Colleville-sur-Mer, or even towards the Pointe du Hoc, located a few steps away, before returning to Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer for a nice sporting break by the sea. On the agenda? Char-à-voile, lazing on the sand, swimming, kite flying, sea walks along the cliffs of Vierville-sur-Mer, kayaking and fishing... But you can also opt for a detour to the Bayeux Adventure Park, and even for a chic break at the Omaha-Beach golf course, all in all, something to complete this stay on the D-Day beaches.
