Perched 70 metres above the sea, on its mythical white limestone cliffs, Bonifacio is certainly one of the most beautiful cities in Corsica. Culture, tradition and dream landscapes, that's what awaits you during your holidays in Bonifacio.
Breathtakingly beautiful, Bonifacio sows invitations to come and discover her many faces. Bordered by the Corso-Sarde International Marine Park, the high-perched village is located at the southern tip of Corsica. Nicknamed the "city of cliffs", Bonifacio l'ensoleillée is an authentic destination, adored for its rich heritage. Its medieval citadel is one of its most beautiful treasures: located at the top of a limestone promontory shaped by the wind and the moods of the sea, this vast open-air museum is a tireless invitation to stroll. The sentry walkway used by the sentinels of the Middle Ages is perfect for discovering the old town: with its loopholes, cannon embrasures and machicolations, this round path will offer you incomparable views of the strait and the port. With its vaulted staircases, ramparts and thick walls, it offers a little freshness on hot (very hot) summer days. Go through the rue des Deux Empereurs, known to shelter the house where Napoleon lived, then go to the Place de la Manichella to admire one of the most beautiful views of Bonifacio, an unobstructed view of neighbouring Sardinia and the serrated cliffs. Take the time to get lost in the old Bonifacian streets to admire the arcades, aqueducts and buttresses that once allowed the inhabitants to obtain rainwater. Visit the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, famous for its loggia, the majestic Bastion of the Standard, the Hermitage of the Trinity (an ancient monastery that overlooks the Mouths of Bonifacio from its 200 metres high) and take a break on the port side. With the family, we particularly recommend a visit to Bonifacio on board the small train: located on the Marina, this small train will take you to the heart of the Bonifacio citadel and will allow you to discover most of the major sites of the Upper Town and the Citadel in comfort.
After visiting the city, head for the sea: courageously climb the 189 steps of the famous King of Aragon Staircase for magnificent views of the open sea, and head to the "Gourvernail": located very close to the marine cemetery, this military site offers after 168 steps carved into the cliff a breathtaking view of the Strait, ideal for watching the sunset in complete tranquility. Do you have sea legs? Hop, at sea! Bonifacio is the perfect place to get your boat licence, so don't deprive yourself! By sea, Bonifacio is totally different: if the Citadel seems very small, the cliffs are of breathtaking beauty, punctuated by caves (the Saint-Antoine cave, "Napoleon's hat") and coves of wild beauty. In the heart of the Bouches de Bonifacio Nature Reserve, you will not want to miss the archipelago of the Lavezzi islands: quite paradisiacal, with their white sand and turquoise water, these islands are the perfect place to hike, and to learn how to dive... To your masks and snorkels ! Bonifacio, faithful to the reputation of the Corsican coast, is a wonderful spot for scuba diving thanks to its seabed of rare beauty. Finally, the beaches of Bonifacio will be perfect for a relaxing break under the sun, unless you prefer water sports: kitesurfing, jet-skiing, windsurfing, flyboarding, surfing, paddle... You won't know where to start, whether you are on Stagnolu beach, on the fantastic Balistra beach, on Rondonara beach, on Canetu cove or on the clear waters of Sutta Rocca.
