A true time machine, Dinan is undeniably the ideal destination for history lovers. This medieval city can be proud to possess one of the most important architectural heritage of Brittany : its ramparts, its 14 defence towers, its 4 large gates and its keep attract every year many holidaymakers, history buffs or simply curious. Dating from medieval times, the timber-framed houses make Dinan's reputation in architecture. Witnesses of the imprint of the 15th and 16th centuries, its convents, its Renaissance hotels, its Romanesque and Gothic churches, but also its beautiful dwellings from the Enlightenment give it a remarkable historical dimension. Proudly erected facing the Rance, Dinan Castle and certainly the most famous monument of the city. This historical building was in turn a ducal residence, a defence fort and a prison. It contains three of Dinan's many jewels : the Gate of the Gate, the Dungeon and the Tower of Coëtquen. We advise you to climb to the top of the Donjon to enjoy an unobstructed view over the Léhon (neighbouring commune) and the ruins of its feudal castle. Dinan also has two imposing churches : the church of Saint Malo and the basilica of Saint Sauveur. The latter deserves a glance, both for its architecture and for the garden it hides: the English Garden. This old parish cemetery located on the upper part of the city walls will offer you the most beautiful panorama of Dinan, on the Rance and the port. It is also impossible to miss the Clock Tower and its incomparable view of the estuary below : the highest point of the city, you can visit it from April to September. Listen during your walks to hear the sweet melody of its bell, offered in 1507 by Anne de Bretagne, ringing every hour of the day. Another place not to be missed: the Rue du Jerzual : very famous in Brittany, this steep paved path which connects the medieval city to the port is undoubtedly the most atypical street in Dinan. Marked by beautiful half-timbered houses typically Dinant and shops of flowered crafts, it is one of the places impossible to circumvent of the city.

Looking for fresh air and nature walks ? Starting point of multiple walks, the Port of Dinan invites you to stroll along the estuary of the Rance. More than 100 kilometres long, this river will offer you sumptuous panoramas, sometimes natural, sometimes historical, through varied landscapes. Whether you are on a boat, on foot, on horseback or by bicycle, the change of scenery is guaranteed! The Coëtquen forest is also teeming with itineraries that will allow you to discover the surroundings of Dinan, its vegetation, its megaliths, its bodies of water and its castles.

Ideally located, Dinan is only 30 minutes from the beautiful Emerald Coast. So, you can easily go to Saint-Malo to enjoy its long beaches of fine sand. Swimming and water sports enthusiasts will also be able to go to Dinard for a choice of long idleness breaks, or discover sailing, kayaking, scuba diving and catamarans.
