On the banks of the Iroise Sea, at the mouth of the Aber Ildut, Plouarzel is located in the department of Finistère. 20 kilometres from Brest, this small seaside resort blends elegance and wild nature with disconcerting charm. Clear sandy beaches, hiking and cultural discoveries will be on the program of this stay in Brittany.

A land of escape, discovery and gourmet delights, Plouarzel has all that Brittany has to offer: breathtaking panoramas, seductive dynamism, and a marked heritage, witness to its very ancient history. To start your visit of this town full of surprises, head to its town centre to discover its typical houses of the region, made of old stones recognizable at first glance. Here, fountains, wash houses, crosses and calvaries are legion, there are no less than 68 crosses and calvaries scattered throughout the town. As far as built heritage is concerned, the Saint-Egarec chapel is worth a look: built during the 16th century, this chapel was once famous in the region for invoking cures such as deafness and earaches. Totally covered with sand from 1666, to let only its bell tower show, it was de-sanded in the 19th century before being restored in 1948 with Breton stones. After a tour of the Saint-Yves chapel, the Château de Kervéatoux, the Lanhalla chapel or the Saint-Eloi chapel, take the direction of the Kerloas menhir. The highest menhir in France, perched 9.5 metres high, it was once the landmark of sailors seeking to enter the port and today fascinates visitors with its imposing size.

Then head for the seafront, Plouarzel's main asset. A few steps from the coast, the 37.20 metre high Trézien lighthouse towers over the sea and ensures the safety of the Four channel below. Our advice? Climb to the very top of the lighthouse: after climbing its 182 steps, you can revel in a breathtaking panorama of the island of Ouessant and the Molène archipelago. After this visit, the Pointe Corsen is also worth the detour: a very popular hiking site in the area, this absolutely marvellous place is the most westerly in mainland France. If the place is perfect for a stroll, we can only recommend you to come and walk there at sunset, to contemplate the magnificent colours of the sky merging with those of the sea... And to have this strange feeling of being the last people in France to have been able to enjoy the sun! Well sheltered from the winds, its white sandy beach bordered by turquoise water is a spot as much appreciated by photographers as by swimmers who come here on sunny days. Little frequented in the summer period, the beaches of Plouarzel are numerous! From the beach of Porsguen to Kerhornou, via the beach of Ruscumunoc and its cove worthy of the most beautiful postcards, the beach of Porsman at the exit of the eponymous port, known for its nautical base, without forgetting the superb beach of Ile Ségal... You won't know which one to choose! The magnificent beach of Porsévigné is in any case a must: a cove of white sand embedded between two dunes whose rocks caress the sea, easy access, it is ideal for swimming. Whether it's for the whole family, perfect for surfing, bodyboarding, sailing or just relaxing, you're bound to find the perfect place to lay your towel and revel in dreamy panoramas!
