If Anduze is a pleasant city to discover, it is above all a destination to live. Picturesque, authentic, rich in ancient history and open to abundant vegetation, this village has everything to please holidaymakers in search of peace and escape.

Occupied since Prehistory, Anduze is the link between the Gardon plain and the Cévennes. Marked by history, this small Cévennes village on the side of the Saint-Julien rock has many vestiges of its distant occupation, as evidenced by the dolmens proudly erected on the Grande Pallière. At the very top of this rock, you can also discover the ruins of a Roman Castrum, as well as a beautiful Gallic oppidum. Situated about fifteen kilometres south-west of Alès, Anduze has a marked heritage, which you can discover by taking a walk in its historic heart. On this occasion, you will not be able to miss the Clock Tower: built as early as 1320, this ancient three-storey watchtower offers from its terrace a breathtaking view of the region, a viewpoint that allowed Anduze to defend itself from invasions and attacks during the Hundred Years' War. With its beautiful clock, meridian and sundial indicating the signs of the zodiac, it is one of the most beautiful vestiges of what the Anduze was once. And if you have the chance to visit the city during the summer period, don't hesitate to climb up, the visit is free!

After this plunge into history, head to the covered square to discover its old houses decorated with sandstone porches, and admire the superb Pagoda fountain, known for its hat made of glazed and coloured ceramic tiles. The fountains are to Anduze what the Morris columns are to Paris: very numerous, and inseparable from local history, they have been supplying the town with water for centuries now. To see them all, stroll through the winding streets of Anduze, and stroll down the Rue Droite, famous for its many pottery shops, before heading towards the Parc des Cordeliers. The green lung of this charming village, this park surprises its visitors with the abundance of its vegetation, an amazing vegetation moreover since it is largely made of bamboos, but also magnolias and cedars. Our advice? Climb on its terrace overlooking the valley: from its heights, an unbeatable panorama awaits you on the surroundings, as well as on the magnificent Château de Tornac nearby.

Want to discover Anduze differently? Watered by the river Gardon, Anduze tirelessly invites you to walk and cycle along its quays, along its meanders. But for a perfect discovery of the marvellous landscapes that this region has to offer, head for the small Cévennes steam train: linking Anduze to Saint-Jean-du-Gard, it will allow you to contemplate incredible panoramas of the Gardons Valley, its mountains and abundant vegetation, passing through the Bamboo grove, the Mescladou viaduct and the Plaine Thoiras-Lasalle viaduct.

Finally, it is impossible to stay in Anduze without visiting Alès, Uzès, Avignon to visit the City of the Popes, and Vers-Pont-du-Gard, to discover the famous and oh so impressive Pont du Gard, emblem of a whole region.
