Between the Cannière plain, the Grands-Fonds and the mangrove, Morne-à-l'Eau is a destination of choice for those who dream of visiting Guadeloupe. Formerly called "Case aux Lamentins" because the commune was the favourite place of the manatees to reproduce, Morne-à-l'Eau takes its name from a source which would come from Morne Grippon. In the west of Grande-Terre, Morne-à-l'Eau reveals to its visitors a charming heritage that you will have all the leisure to contemplate during pedestrian or cycling strolls according to your desires. If the town is famous for its architecture, it is above all for its splendid and original cemetery, with its black and white chequered graves! It is also one of the most visited cemeteries in Guadeloupe and, thanks to its giant chessboard look and its small Creole squares, it is also one of the most photographed.

Also, take the time to stop by the Vieux-Bourg, a fisherman's district and the departure point for the boats that will take you to discover the Grand-Cul-de-Sac-Marin! Because the major asset of Morne-à-l'Eau is its coastline and its beaches. Our advice? For a relaxing break, head for Babin beach on the Vieux-Bourg side! Renowned for its mud baths, perfect for fighting arthritis, rheumatism and skin problems, but also for its perfect setting for picnics (an institution here!), it is the perfect place to bask in the sun. Along the turquoise water coastline, you can also swim, and enjoy water activities such as kayaking, which is the number one activity in the area to discover the beauty of the Guadeloupean coastline! Morne-à-l'Eau being an archipelagic territory, it will be possible for you to discover the five islets by mountain bike, kayak or boat: the Fajou islet in the heart of the National Park of Guadeloupe, the Macou islet famous for its chapel, the superb Bird islet, the Rat islet or the Duberran islet.

Finally, Morne-à-l'Eau will amaze you with its gastronomy: claiming for years the title of "crab capital", the town organizes every year in April a parade dedicated to this crustacean, which can be found on the menu of many shops in Morne-à-l'Eau! In soup, on skewers, stuffed, in fricassee, or in matte, the crab is a true religion here!
