As we know, the Lot department has all the assets for an exotic holiday far from the crowds of popular seaside destinations. The town of Saint-Sozy, a neighbour of Souillac, does not deviate from the rule by offering its visitors a wide range of activities for the whole family.

A small paradise of nature, history and tranquility, Saint-Sozy is one of the small villages typical of the Dordogne. Dominated by the Roc des Monges and watered by the Dordogne, it is distinguished by the charm of its narrow streets dotted with picturesque stone houses, emblematic of the village. Articulated around a small square and a church, these ancient residences give Saint-Sozy an undeniable charm. As you go out in the city, you will discover beautiful wash houses, wells and bridges, which are the richness of the local heritage. From its glorious past, Saint-Sozy still has two castles: the Château de Lachièze and the Château de Saint-Sozy. The first, built during the 15th century, is known to have housed a convent of nuns in one of its medieval towers (the Tour des Dames de Mirepoix). The second one, the Château de Saint-Sozy, was first a school, then a town hall. This castle, now private, is one of the oldest buildings in the town and was extensively renovated during the 14th and 15th centuries.

Saint-Sozy is the perfect place to start hiking. Perched at an altitude of about 100 metres, the village has many absolutely splendid hiking trails. The "Les Falaises de la Dordogne and its villages" circuit is ideal for families: 3.4 kilometres long, it will allow you to discover the old hamlet of Lachièze, but also the magnificent plains of the Causses de Martel and Gramat. The "Des Rochers et des Hommes" itinerary is the most popular: rather sporty, it offers incomparable panoramas over the Dordogne valley, the Causses de Gramat and Martel. 7.7 kilometres long, it will lead you through the high cliffs and limestone plateaus to discover the splendour of the meandering Dordogne. The latter is particularly suitable for water sports activities. On a sporting descent or during quiet walks, the Dordogne will take you to discover its most beautiful villages and castles thanks to its 130 kilometres of canoe and kayak trails, from Souilllac to Argentat via Beaulieu, Brivezac, Ponsac, Gluges or Vayrac.

Finally, during stays in Saint-Sozy, it would be a pity to miss the many exceptional natural sites scattered here and there in the Dordogne, in the Lot and Haut-Quercy. Le Gouffre de Padirac (18 kilometres away), Rocamadour and its majestic religious city, Gramat and its animal park, Lacave and its magnificent caves, Cabrerets and its cave of Pech-Merle, Saint-Cirq-Lapopie and its breathtaking landscapes, Payrignac and its caves, or Sarlat-la-Canéda and its old medieval village are all places that are inseparable from the history of the Dordogne, which you must see during your holidays in Saint-Sozy !
