Wedged between the Auray and Étel rivers, Ploemel has a rich history dating back to the Neolithic period. After being occupied by the Celts, the Venetians and the Romans, it was the Bretons who settled in this millenary land in the 7th century. From its past, Ploemel has kept an interesting and important architectural heritage, which will certainly win the hearts of lovers of old stones. As you walk through the narrow streets of this picturesque old town, you will have the opportunity to cross the road to the Chapel of Locmaria: built during the 14th century on the site of Locmaria, this chapel known for its engraved funeral slab is the oldest religious building in the municipality. A true sanctuary dedicated to sailors, the Chapelle de la Recouvrance not far from here also deserves a visit thanks to its superb 16th and 17th century wall paintings. The chapel of Saint-Cado, that of Saint-Méen, that of Saint-Laurent, the parish church of Saint-André and the many crosses in the village complete the picture of religious monuments to see during your visit to Ploemel.

Also, the Mané-Bogad gallery dolmen testifies to the very ancient occupation of Ploemel by man: built on a promontory, this dolmen takes place in the heart of a superb park, a favourite playground for children. The "Grande Plage" of Carnac is certainly the most popular in the area, with some 2 kilometres of fine sand. Loved by families, it is just as much for sports enthusiasts who can enjoy a wide range of activities, from volleyball to water sports such as sailing, scuba diving, kitesurfing, bodyboarding, catamarans, wakeboarding, jet skiing, paddling, kayaking, or even going on a sea excursion aboard a small motor boat in the sublime Bay of Quiberon. The "Kerhilli Beach" in Erdeven is also a water sports paradise as many sailboat, surf and kitesurf enthusiasts gather there every year for water sports competitions. If you spend a day on the island of Groix, you will have to discover the magnificent beaches of "Tahiti Beach" and "Les Grands Sables", renowned both for their paradisiacal waters and for the many water sports they offer. The Wild Coast of Quiberon Bay has, in addition to its legendary invigorating air, many coves and beaches to discover during your walks.
