The village of Billom is located in the Puy-de-Dôme department, in the urban area of Clermont-Ferrand. In the heart of the natural region of Tuscany Auvergne, of which it is the capital, this charming town surprises as much as it fascinates. Rich in a very ancient history, Billom is a medieval city which, installed near the old Roman road linking Lyon to Bordeaux, marvels at the splendour of its heritage. Over the centuries, the town has become known to visitors for its fairs, and in particular for its garlic fair which takes place in August, and which features Billom garlic, a must for all good tables. A town with a trading tradition, this medieval city takes the visitor into the heart of a fortified enclosure that conceals many treasures. Take the time to stroll along the Rue des Boucheries, where old shops line the cobblestones and give a glimpse of small courtyards with a bucolic charm. From the Maison de l'Échevin to the Maison du Bailly (15th century), via the Maison du Péage, the Maison du Doyen and the Maison du Boucher, the whole history of local architecture will be displayed before your eyes. But if there is one thing you cannot miss in Billom, it is its church. Of Romanesque origin, the Collegiate Church of Saint-Cerneuf invites onlookers to push open its doors to discover its crypt, the oldest in the whole of the Puy-de-Dôme, its astonishing architecture and its precious wall paintings dating from the 14th century. From narrow streets to squares decorated with flags, you will discover the half-timbered houses and the stone residences which give Billom its bewitching character. The "highlight of the show"? The Gardens of La Croze, without a doubt! Composed of a French-style vegetable garden, an English-style garden, rose gardens, a regular garden and an orchard, these 19th century gardens, known for the beauty of their trees, some of which are two hundred years old, are an ideal place for a romantic interlude in the calm of the vegetation.

It is impossible to leave Billom without tasting its gastronomy; If the Monday morning market is a key stage in the preparation of good small dishes with local flavours, do not hesitate to push the door of the small restaurants of the village in search of dishes based on garlic of Billom, cheeses of Auvergne, honeys of local productions, or to taste truffades, potées auvergnates, delicatessen, small salted with lentils and other fruit jellies are as many delights which will delight the papillae of the large ones as of the small ones.
