Classified as a Tourist Commune in 2016, Tauves is definitely the perfect place for a holiday in harmony with nature, where traditions, history and fresh air will punctuate your stay. Do you want to get away from it all, to get away from the crowds, to go skiing and hiking in the countryside? What are you waiting for to pack your bags?

Between the Dordogne Valley and the Sancy, Tauves, in the Puy-de-Dôme department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, is a must for those who dream of nature. Spread out between 636 and 1072 meters of altitude, this village is watered by many rivers that flow from the Dordogne. On the Artense plateau, in the heart of a fertile, wooded and hilly environment, the village has an interesting heritage that you can discover during your walks, such as its Romanesque church. Known for its 16th century altarpiece, but also for its beautiful bells and polychrome capitals, the church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité is one of the oldest buildings in the village. Dating from the 12th century and listed in 1911, it is worth a visit, as is the 17th century Sainte-Madeleine chapel, the Menhir de Méjanesse (2.32 metres high) and the hamlet of Pont Vieux, known as a former commandery of the Hospitallers of the Order of St John of Jerusalem.

A dynamic town, Tauves organises many events throughout the year, such as the Celtic Festival, the Festival of a Thousand Sources and Dordogne, the Arts and Crafts Fair, the Local Festival, or the Festival of the Laquais de Tauves, all of which will plunge you into the heart of local folklore. And to make sure you don't miss out on the know-how of the region's craftsmen, the Rural Craftsmen's Centre in the heart of the village brings together more than 70 craftsmen from all over the Auvergne, working with wood, painted metal, clay, glass, flowers or enamelled lava, artists and craftsmen who sell their creations and offer workshops and introductions for the whole family.

In Tauves, there are many hiking trails that will allow you to discover the village and the surrounding villages. Whether on foot, by car or by bike, the landscapes of Tauves and the Sancy are sure to put a sparkle in the eyes of the whole family! The Dordogne River, which flows nearby, is a must-see. Its contours are perfect for hiking, fishing or swimming, and are studded with a myriad of castles to discover. The 13th century Château de Val on the banks of the Dordogne, the ruined Château de Thynières, and the Château de Pierrefite are all worth adding to your to-do list. Walkers will appreciate the panoramic view from the Pyramid Site, not forgetting the view from Les Orgues over the Vallée des Orgues below, and a short trip to Lake Pavin located 34 kilometres east of Tauves. The lake of La Tour d'Auvergne, the National Nature Reserve of the Chaudefour Valley with Chambon-sur-Lac, but also the Mont Dore, the Cascade du Moine, the Puy de Sancy and its ski resort at 30 minutes drive, are also magnificent places to discover in winter as well as in summer, just like the Domaine Nordique de la Stèle (10 minutes from Tauves) which will be ideal for a few ski descents, paragliding, via ferrata, biathlon or even climbing... In short, enough to make your holidays in Tauves unforgettable!
