Land of chalk, hiking and breathtaking views of the open sea, Yport is a quiet holiday. The ones you spend with family or friends, in love or alone, discovering an incredibly beautiful coastline, a paradise for both contemplative and outdoor enthusiasts.
Housed on a coastline whose reputation is well established, between Étretat and Fécamp, Yport is a small seaside resort that has all the makings of a great one. Its coast, crossed by the paths of the GR21, skirts high, very high chalk cliffs, of a brilliant white, which cut in steep slopes the littoral yportais and that of the Coast of Alabaster which, resolutely, bears its name well. On the Channel coast, Yport is an old small fishing port which, having become very popular at the time of sea bathing (at the end of the 19th century), has been transformed over the years into a renowned seaside resort, full of charm and much appreciated by travellers visiting the Normandy coast. On the seafront and in the heart of the village, red brick houses and posh bourgeois mansions multiplied, inspiring many painters and authors who stayed there, from Eugène Boudin to Jean-Paul Laurens, not forgetting André Gide, George Sand, and Guy de Maupassant who, according to anecdotal evidence, would have stayed in the Maison Mauresque, an imposing white building recognizable among a thousand. The story goes that it was certainly here that the writer would have drawn inspiration for his novel "Une Vie", set in Yport. A few monuments are therefore worth a visit in Yport, such as its emblematic church, which is very original. Built in 1838 by the Yportais who all brought their stone to the building, the Saint-Martin church has a splendid high bell tower and stripes, which give it a unique character.
But Yport's real asset is above all its coast. It unrolls miles and miles of beaches, most of which are made up of pebbles like the central beach. Along Alexandre Dumont Boulevard, it boasts small, colourful bathing cabins, as you see many on the coast. Watched over in the summer and equipped with a beach volleyball court, it is very much appreciated by lovers of relaxation who will be able to bubble under the Normandy sun in complete peace and quiet, as well as by swimming fans who will be able to dive in for a few refreshing swims. In terms of water activities, you will have the opportunity to try paddle, surfing, but also sea kayaking, windsurfing or bodyboarding, to discover all the beauty of the coast and the chalk cliffs from the sea. On August 15th, this beach is transformed into a huge festival on the occasion of the Sea and Painting Festival, an event not to be missed if you are passing through Yport at this time of the year. Visit the casino, tennis, picnic on the cliffs, fishing and hiking will complete your stay in Yport and on the Alabaster Coast.
