In the heart of Provence, Orange is a famous ancient Roman city. Situated right next to the Rhone River which separates it from the Gard, Orange, nicknamed the "City of Princes" is in the Vaucluse, 24 kilometres from Carpentras and 25 minutes from Avignon and Bagnols-sur-Cèze. Rich of a very ancient history, Orange is above all known for its remarkable heritage, which every year seduces history lovers and lovers of beautiful stones. In the heart of the city, two monuments particularly attract attention: the Ancient Theatre and the Arc de Triomphe. Both listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, they are the two oldest monuments in the city. The first, the Ancient Theatre, dates back to Imperial Rome and plunges the visitor into the heart of its construction during the reign of Augustus in the 1st century. With its wide hemicycle tiers, columns, numerous statues and theatre area, it still welcomes thousands of spectators every year, curious to attend the summer events that enliven Orange, like its famous Choregies. After visiting the theatre, head for the Arc de Triomphe. Symbol of Roman imperialism, dedicated to the founders of the Roman colony of Orange, it impresses by its stocky character and its splendid bas-reliefs. But other buildings are to be seen in Orange, such as its cathedral Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth. Consecrated in 1208, ransacked by the Huguenots in the 16th century before being restored at the very beginning of the 17th century, it is worth a visit for its splendid decorations and its 1912 organ. On the religious side, the 15th century Saint-Florent church and the Gabet chapel are worth a visit, as is the town centre which houses many private mansions such as the Town Hall on Place Clémenceau, the splendid Lapise mansion on Rue Notre-Dame, and the statue of Raimbaud II, Count of Orange on the Place de la République side.

After these very urban visits, and after having taken the time of a dej on the terrace to enjoy Orange wine, truffle dishes and other Provencal dishes, direction the hill of Saint-Eutrope located near the Ancient Theatre. A magnificent belvedere, this hill dominates the whole of the city of Orange but also the Rhône, and offers walkers incredible panoramas of the surrounding countryside. A park with particularly lush vegetation, it shelters the remains of the castle of the Princes of Nassau, once reputed to be one of the most beautiful strongholds in Europe. To visit Orange and its region, you will find many walking, horse riding or cycling routes, perfect for reaching the neighbouring towns of Sérignan-du-Comtat, Carpentras, Sorgues, Avignon, Bagnols-sur-Cèze, Vaison-la-Romaine, Pont-Saint-Esprit or Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux.
