South of the Vendée, facing the Ile de Ré, L'Aiguillon-sur-Mer invites you to discover its many facets. Between beaches, water sports, nature walks, heritage and gastronomy, you will quickly be conquered by this village of the "Land Born from the Sea".
Ancient dune island connected to the mainland by the natural filling of the Pictons Gulf, L'Aiguillon-sur-Mer takes its name from the long sand arch that now constitutes its coastline. In the heart of the village, you can enjoy the beach of the lake to swim and rest. Ideal for children, it has a large playground with inflatable elements. Nearby, the Atlantic Wave Park offers a seawater pool specially designed for wakeboarding, wakeskate, water skiing or kneeboarding. But you can also join the Oasis beach, the Éperon beach or the many beaches of La Faute-sur-Mer to discover other horizons and other leisure activities.
After enjoying the ocean, take the hiking trails that criss-cross L'Aiguillon-sur-Mer and allow you to appreciate its heritage. Discover in particular the port and its wooden jetties, the oyster basins, the Moulinette mill, the Saint-Nicolas church, the old station and the small fishermen's houses. Then head towards the Pointe de l'Aiguillon which houses the national nature reserve of the Bay. This protected area will allow you to see many migratory birds and to admire the so particular fauna of the coast : immortal dunes, oyat... And if you still want to do a little sport or have fun, join the many facilities of the resort : the skate-park, tennis courts, the triathlon area or the Adventure Park.
Ideally located, L'Aiguillon-sur-Mer allows you to easily discover the rich heritage of the Pays Né de la Mer. On foot or by bike, walk to the pretty village of Saint-Michel-en-l'Herm and visit its magnificent Royal Abbey, founded in the 7th century and of which Mazarin was one of the high dignitaries. Then follow in the footsteps of Cardinal de Richelieu in Luçon and admire Notre-Dame de l'Assomption Cathedral, the Episcopal Palace, the Choyau Hotel and the Rorthais Hotel in Marmende, all listed as historic monuments. You can also take a boat trip in the Poitevin marsh or head out to the island of Ré. Back at L'Aiguillon-sur-Mer, take the time to taste the local specialities : oysters, mussels, melon, mogettes, potée vendéenne, stuffed poitevin, brioche...
