Renowned for the quality of its beaches, Olonne sur Mer is an ideal resort to enjoy the joys of the ocean. On the beach of Sauveterre, bordered by the national forest, surf lovers will enjoy a very good quality spot. The Granges beach, more wild, also has good waves that allow other activities such as bodyboarding, waseskiing or stand-up paddle. But you can also settle quietly on the fine sand and enjoy the setting of this beautiful little corner of the Vendée. After the beach, go to the 18-hole Olonne golf course or the Funshine to enjoy the 60 indoor and outdoor activities on offer.
The cradle of the Pays des Olonnes, Olonne sur Mer welcomed its first inhabitants in Neolithic times and its rich heritage bears witness to this long history. To discover it, take the pedestrian loop proposed by the Tourist Office. You will be able to admire the Notre-Dame church, classified as a historical monument, the manor of La Jarrie and its 15th century corner tower, the manor of La Mortière, the Roses mill... Continue your walk by visiting the Château de Pierre-Levée, built on the model of the Petit Trianon. Its French gardens are impressive and resemble real paintings composed of flowers. Near the castle, you can also see the oldest monuments of the town : the twin menhirs of Pierre-Levée.
After these heritage walks, take the many trails that line the resort to enjoy its beautiful natural spaces. On foot, on horseback or by bicycle, discover the forest of more than 1000 hectares planted under Napoleon 1st to retain the dunes. Also go to admire the marshes of Olonne which extend on more than 40 hectares and which shelter a flora and a fauna of a great diversity. Then follow the course of the Auzance or the Vertonne to enjoy the green charm of their wooded valleys.
