The regional capital, Cagliari, has a very pleasant old town, the great majority of whose monuments were built of white limestone, giving it a special luminosity. Behind the well-preserved ramparts you can admire the Romanesque-Pisan Cathedral of Santa Maria of the 13th century, the Basilica of Our Lady of Bonaria and the covered walk. But also enjoy the many parks of the city and the lagoon that hosts a multitude of flamingos. Then go on the north-west coast to visit the pretty towns of Alghero (fortifications, old town, palace) and Bosa (San Pietro church, Malaspina castle).

Of course, the national park of the island of the Asinara, near Stintino, is part of the essential ones but also go to the discovery of the back -country and its mountainous massifs like the Gennargentu (hiking trails, ski resorts).
