A seaside region in southern Italy, Campania will surprise you with its rich history and cultural heritage, but also with its breathtaking landscapes that attract many holidaymakers every year. Between architectural treasures, fields of olive trees as far as the eye can see and coasts with vast paradisiac beaches, this region has enough to make you fall under its charm.
The capital of Campania, Naples is known throughout the world for its cultural heritage and delicious pizzas. An unmissable place in this sunny region and a veritable open-air museum, its historic centre, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has nearly 500 churches, majestic fountains, grandiose palaces, medieval castles and colourful streets in which you will adore strolling to the rhythm of the dolce vita.
Then follow in the footsteps of the ancient city of Pompeii, to discover its archaeological site and ruins, famous throughout the world. More than 2 million visitors flock every year to contemplate this ancient city, its Roman amphitheatre, its forum and its baths. Not to be missed under any circumstances, the sunset over the ruins of the city : an unforgettable spectacle !
After visiting Pompeii, climb to the summit of Vesuvius. From the top of its 1281 meters, this volcano dominates the bay and the city of Naples. After a few minutes of effort, you can admire from its highest point an exceptional panorama over the region. Responsible for the destruction of Pompeii, Vesuvius is still today one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world.
Further south, in the bay of Naples, lies the beautiful Capri. Famous for its beautiful rugged landscape, this island is known for its heavenly coves and breathtaking natural sites. Perhaps the best known is the "blue cave" in the north of the island. A real jewel of the region not to be missed, this dark cave hides in its bosom an arm of the sea tinged with an electric blue, bright, as if illuminated by neon lights : the spectacle is breathtaking ! Along the beaches of Capri, you can enjoy a relaxing break under the Mediterranean sun, with family or friends. The time of a walk, you will discover the abundant vegetation and the shimmering colors of the flowers which mark out the island, conferring to him a very particular charm. A little further north, the islands of Ischia and Procida are also worth a visit : colourful houses and picturesque ports will surely amaze you.
Continue your visit to Campania with a stroll along the Amalfi coast : these 80 kilometres of beautiful coastline are listed as UNESCO World Heritage. From the Sorrento peninsula to the Gulf of Salerno, colourful villages perched in the mountains follow one another up the cliffs. Stop at Amalfi to visit its imposing cathedral, but also at Praiano, Ravello, Maiori and Positano : take the time to stroll through its maze of narrow streets typical of the villages of the Amalfi coast. By day or by night, this city on the side of a cliff bordering a turquoise sea is worth the sight so much the panorama is striking !
Finally, how to spend a stay in Campania without tasting the flavours of local cuisine ? Regional wines, pizzas, fish dishes, seafood, cuttlefish, ricotta, provola or mozzarella di bufala : we already dream about it!
