In the south-west of the Indian Ocean, off the island of Reunion, Mauritius is a real little paradise on earth. Between fabulous lagoons, beaches lined with coconut trees, volcanic landscapes and exotic gastronomy, your holidays will be placed under the sign of enchantment.
On Mauritius, it is very difficult to choose your favourite beach. With their fine sand, enchanting environment and turquoise waters, the beaches compete in beauty. To the north of the island, near Grand Gaube, discover Pereybère. Worthy of a postcard, this beach is also ideal for many water activities: kitesurfing, water skiing, big game fishing... On the west coast, sheltered from the winds, the beach of Flic en Flac is another wonder of nature. If you come early in the morning, you will have a good chance of spotting bottlenose dolphins or bottlenose dolphins that particularly appreciate this part of the lagoon.
The coast will undoubtedly be your favourite holiday destination during your stay in Mauritius but also take the time to discover the other wonders of the island. Visit Port-Louis, the capital, to appreciate the many buildings of the colonial era : the citadel, the Saint-Louis cathedral, the Champ de Mars... Also visit the site of the Aapravasi Ghat, listed as a World Heritage Site and which was a vast immigration centre built in the nineteenth century. Do not leave the city without having walked the streets of Chinatown, the Muslim district, the Indian district and without having walked between the stalls of the central market where you will be able to taste the local specialities : pepper cakes, boiled gram, dholl puris, faratas...
Continue your exploration by the south of the island which seduces by its wild side. Of course, you will still enjoy pretty beaches but you will also discover rocky coasts, cliffs, mountainous landscapes and vast sugar cane fields. Visit the historic city of Mahébourg where Napoleon won his only naval victory over the English, enjoy the view of Lion Mountain, walk the paths of Ile aux Aigrettes, a nature reserve that is home to many birds and giant turtles, and relax on the superb beach of Pointe d'Esny. If you dream of an even more authentic holiday, visit the island of Rodrigues and especially the pretty village of Grand Baie.
