In the north of the province of Alicante, in a mountainous and hilly region, Pego is an ideal place to spend an exotic holiday. Close to the Mediterranean Sea, this pretty village combines softness of life, historical heritage and gastronomic festivities.

Located in the hinterland of the Costa Blanca and the Costa Valencia, Pego invites you to taste the charms of these two shores. 5 kilometres away, discover the superb beaches of Oliva which stretch over 10 kilometres of fine sand. Separated from the orange orchards by large dunes, they slowly sink into the sea and are an ideal playground for children. But the older ones will also find their happiness by lounging, bathing or taking part in numerous nautical activities. If you prefer a steeper coastline, go to the Costa Blanca, in Denia for example, and choose a small cove where you can explore the seabed in peace.

Back in Pego, discover all the rich heritage of this pretty town. The most impressive monument is certainly the church of Asuncíon. Built between the 16th and 18th centuries, it has a very bright central nave and a superb bell tower. Inside, you can admire the altarpiece of the Virgin of Hope, the icon of the Double Verónica (15th century) and a sculpture of Christ of Providence (16th century). Then enjoy the chapel of the Ecce-Homo, the hermitages of Sant Josep, Sant Miquel, Sant Antoni and the Franciscan convent next to the church of the Sagrada Familia. But also take the time to visit the House of Culture which houses the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Ethnological Museum.

In the surroundings of Pego, several remarkable sites can be the occasion of pleasant excursions. 2 kilometres from the centre, you can admire the remains of the castle of Ambra, of Muslim origin, or the hermitage of Sant Antoni, built in an ancient Arab hamlet. But you can also discover the natural park of Marjal de Pego-Oliva on foot or by bike. A vast wetland fed by groundwater, it hosts swamps and rice fields and is home to many species of birds. But also take advantage of your stay in Pego to taste the local flavours : Llanda shells, rice specialities (arròs en Crosta, arròs caldós, paella...), espencat, empanadillas, mona, aguardiente...
