Looking for a holiday in the sun? How about heading out to the Canary Islands? More precisely, to choose the seaside resort of Costa Calma, on the island of Fuerteventura?
A true concentrate of all that is best in terms of heavenly holidays, Costa Calma, the waterfront of the municipality of Pajara, welcomes every year travellers who love fine sand. Caressed by the crystal clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean, this town in the south of Fuerteventura is an authentic haven of peace, ideal for escape, relaxation and water sports. Its main asset? Its two kilometres of white sand, which runs along transparent water ideal for underwater exploration. The beach of Costa Calma, that's its name, reveals a beautiful paradisiacal expanse where swimming is a real pleasure. Protected from the winds, it invites you to peaceful walks and tanning sessions under the legendary Canary sun. In addition, it offers magnificent panoramic views of the island's mountains and the open sea, perfect for a postcard setting. Southwest of Costa Calma, Sotavento beach is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Fuerteventura: with its 5 long kilometres of fine sand and its water at 21°C in both winter and summer, it is the perfect place for those who are looking for a little peace and quiet. Here, in addition to sunbathing, there is a wide range of water sports: windsurfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing are king in the area, and it is here that the world sliding championships are organised every year. Further on, Playa Jandia beach and its 25 kilometres of unspoilt land will delight lovers of nature and wide open spaces. Here too, windsurfing and kitesurfing attract athletes from all over the world. In addition to these thrilling activities, you can also go out to sea to fish, learn snorkeling or opt for surfing and sailing lessons.
Hiking and nature lovers? We strongly recommend that you visit the Sicasumbre lookout: well known to astronomy enthusiasts, this spot is a privileged place to observe the stars and constellations, which are clearly visible in the middle of the night. The dunes surrounding the seaside resort will also be perfect walking trails, to discover all the faces of Costa Calma: we advise you to walk along Sotavento beach to the Punta Jandia lighthouse, for incomparable views of the turquoise sea. Finally, the Jandia Natural Park, a protected area that covers almost the entire Jandia peninsula, is particularly recommended for experienced walkers: made up of volcanic mountainous areas and long strips of white sand, this Eden with its varied landscapes promises beautiful excursions through its arid landscapes. Remember to take water in your bag during this trip, the heat in the park can sometimes be stifling on very hot summer days.
With the family? Head for Oasis Park, a well-known zoo on the island located just a few minutes from Costa Calma. Botanical and animal park, it will allow you to discover snakes, crocodiles, reptiles and other amphibians of the Canary Islands. Parrots, sea lions, birds of prey, hippos, African elephants, lemurs, camels, Sahara foxes, gazelles, cheetahs and birds will amaze the youngest.
