Blue water, fine sand, unspoilt nature and outdoor hiking: this is what awaits you if you choose to spend your holidays in El Sauzal. Are you ready for the big change of scenery?
Perched 300 metres above sea level in the north of the island of Tenerife, El Sauzal is one of the greenest seaside resorts on the island. Quiet and relatively uninhabited, this atypical commune is renowned for its magnificent panoramas, both on the Teide and its natural park as well as on the Atlantic Ocean. Its 24 kilometres of rugged coastline offers wonderful views of the rugged mountains, as well as secret coves and turquoise water lagoons, perfect postcards from this little piece of paradise. Hiking fans? To your walking shoes! From its beaches to its highest perched points, El Sauzal has many walking routes, sometimes recreational, sometimes sporting. The most difficult will lead you through the steep paths of the Las Mejias ravine to its steepest cliffs that reach the village from an altitude of 1507 metres.
The heart of the village of El Sauzal is not lacking in charm: typical of the Canary Islands, it has beautiful and colourful residences and many historical sites. To discover them, nothing beats taking the La Ladera trail. First, this itinerary will allow you to discover the church of San Pedro Apostol: located facing the sea, this magnificent 16th century church with its white painted dome houses many altarpieces and paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. In addition, the latter offers breathtaking views of the sea and the orange tiles of the Sauzalera houses, splendid paintings that we recommend you to observe at sunrise! Continue your visit towards the Nuestra Senora de los Angeles y del Mar hermitage, stop at Casa del Vino for a discovery of local wines, before pushing the door of the Sierva de Dios house-museum. Stroll through Parque Los Lavaderos for a break to the green: located overlooking the sea at an altitude of 200 metres, this green paradise is one of the most charming places in El Sauzal. With its gardens, bucolic paths, waterfalls and ocean views, it is very popular with visitors. Then climb up to the Mirador de Las Brenas: known as one of the most beautiful lookouts in the village, it offers unobstructed views of the horizon and the vastness of the ocean from its terraces. By day, by night, at sunrise or sunset, it is definitely worth a visit!
Finally, on the swimming side, Playa de Rojas will delight holidaymakers who love authenticity: thanks to its natural pools, crystal clear water and azure reflections, this cove is really worth a visit. For long beaches of fine sand, you will have to go to Tacoronte: Playa del Camello or Playa de la Arena in particular will delight everyone: sun, swimming, ice merchants, surfing, kitesurfing, sailing or diving spots, parasols and sun loungers... You will necessarily find something to spend your days!
