Sun, sea, mountains, culture and nature: this is a brief summary of what awaits you if you choose to settle in Santiago del Teide.
To the west of the Teide National Park, at an altitude of 100 metres, Santiago del Teide impresses by the beauty of its landscapes. With its tropical climate, beautiful weather all year round and friendly atmosphere, the town is the perfect place for a sunny break in both winter and summer on the island of Tenerife. Its charming village is worth a visit: leaning against the slopes of Pico Viejo, it has many typical Canary Islands houses, painted white and undeniably charming. The 17th century church of San Fernando Rey, as well as the Casa del Patio, are two of the city's most emblematic buildings, perfect witnesses of local architecture, to be seen during your visit to Santiago del Teide.
As for nature, Santiago del Teide has a lot to offer to hiking fans. The Chinyero Nature Reserve and its 24 square kilometres of vegetation are a perfect playground for sports enthusiasts who can discover its hilly landscapes, drawn by the lava flows of the imposing Chinyero volcano. Nestled between Santiago del Teide and its 160 metres high, it offers incomparable panoramic views over the whole of Tenerife from its summit. Several hiking trails start in Santiago del Teide: the Almond Blossom Route, the Santiago Way (a pilgrimage similar to that of Santiago de Compostela), PR-TF 43.3 which links the heart of Santiago del Teide to Montana Chinyero, or PT-TF 65 from Santiago to Puerto de Santiago. The loops that criss-cross the cliffs of Los Gigantes, the Abeque Ridge and the Teno Rural Park are particularly recommended to allow you to discover the most beautiful faces of Santiago del Teide.
On the sea side, we recommend that you visit the Cueva Tancon: located in Puerto Santiago, a hamlet of Santiago del Teide, this spectacularly beautiful sea cave is hidden in the heart of the rocks. Very well hidden and quite difficult to access, it offers its lucky visitors an unforgettable journey through the heart of Tenerife. Crystal clear and turquoise water, panoramic views of the sea and calm, this is what awaits you if you have the opportunity to discover it. Santiago del Teide is also known for its whale sanctuary: overhung by the cliffs of Los Gigantes, perched at an altitude of 600 metres, the resort's waters will delight sea lovers. The observation of cetaceans will amaze both young and old: pilot whales, bottlenose dolphins, and more than twenty other species of marine animals live near the coast all year round. Finally, if you prefer activities on land, the black sandy beaches of Playa de la Arena, Los Guios beach (famous for scuba diving), Playa San Juan and Alcala will satisfy all your desires.
