On the edge of the Atlantic Ocean under the Vendée sun, Château d'Olonne offers you an ideal holiday setting. Located on the Côte de Lumière, the commune is close to the famous seaside resort of Les Sables d'Olonne. It takes its name from an old castle destroyed under Richelieu's orders in the 17th century, in whose place today stands the Saint-Hilaire church. You can also visit it in summer as part of the city's discovery tours.

Visitors should not miss discovering Saint-Jean d'Orbestier Abbey: guided tours are also organised to discover the history of this nine-century old abbey which stands facing the sea. Art lovers will appreciate to see that it hosts many exhibitions of contemporary artists every year.

The rocky coast of Château d'Olonne between the bay of Cayola and the Puits d'Enfer will take you to other horizons. Everything here seems to call for calm and relaxation. The commune enjoys a pleasant climate due to its mild temperatures and high level of sunshine, all year round.

From Tanchet beach to the pebble dunes of Cayola, from where you can discover a magnificent panoramic view of the coast, the one also called the "Wild Coast" is five kilometres long. The Vendée coast is composed of a rich, generous, wild and very complex nature.
