RENTAL GIRONA : 

A few kilometres from the French border, in the north of Catalonia, Girona has many surprises in store for its visitors. Endowed with an extraordinary heritage, the city also surprises by its culinary richness, its cultural proposals and the quality of its sports infrastructures.

Founded by the Iberians, conquered by the Romans, occupied by the Visigoths, by the Moors, by the Franks of Charlemagne, besieged and taken by Napoleon, Girona has preserved many traces of this turbulent past. In the historic city, the oldest remains date back to Roman antiquity with the Força Vella, fortress built in the 1st century. But a walk in the heart of the old town allows you to discover many other wonders. The superb Cathedral of St. Mary, for example, has a Romanesque cloister, a Baroque façade and a Gothic vaulted nave. Next door, the Arab baths, built in the 12th century, offer a more profane, but equally finished, version of the Romanesque style.

The most emblematic part of Girona is undoubtedly the Call, a Jewish quarter of medieval times, admirably preserved. In the heart of the afternoon, its maze of cobbled streets, covered passages and stone staircases offers a welcome freshness. The Call will also delight culture lovers as it hosts the Jewish History Museum and the Girona History Museum. They will also be delighted by a visit to the cathedral's treasure museum, which houses masterpieces of religious art such as the codex of the Apocalypse or the tapestry of Creation. On the other side of the river Onyar, the Film Museum, which houses the famous collection of the filmmaker Tomàs Mallol, is another Girona landmark.

Throughout the year, Girona offers an impressive cultural offer between festivals, fairs, carnival and other forums. Numerous animations highlight the gastronomic dynamism of the city which is distinguished by its local products and its art of preparing them. On the menu: xuixo, an excellent fritter filled with cream, sweet sausage, of medieval origin, but also famous cold meats and delicious wines from the Empordà. After some agape, a digestive walk along the Rambla de la Llibertat and the adjacent streets will allow to prolong the discovery of the city and to make a little shopping.
