Nestling in a bucolic setting that will make your heart skip a beat, Proissans is pure charm. Quietly located, far from the hustle and bustle of the big tourist resorts, Proissans is a first-rate place for lovers of the great outdoors and beautiful heritage. Here, as you wander through the narrow streets in the heart of the village, you will discover magnificent, imposing and comfortable houses, emblematic of the architecture of the Périgord Noir, easily identifiable by their slate roofs. Several particularly beautiful buildings are to be seen in the village, such as the 15th century Cluzeau manor house, renowned for its incomparable panoramas over the green valleys below, the Langlade manor house, recognizable by its drip tower, or the Roussies castle. Imposing, entirely covered with a large slate roof, it is worth seeing for its 15th century architecture as well as its small 17th century chapel.

In Proissans, there are many routes, accessible to both pedestrians and mountain bikers, which you can take to enjoy magnificent panoramas over the Perigord countryside. The 12-kilometre long "Les Sangliers" hiking loop will be ideal to lead you through the rich heritage of Proissans, made up of mills, dovecotes and calvaries in number. Other trails will take you through the superb valleys of the Énéa and Massoulie rivers, while others will lead you straight to the Proissans pond, adored by walkers and fishermen who come here to seek calm and serenity. Sarlat, the emblematic medieval town of the Dordogne, is also a must to do during your stay in Proissans: in the heart of the Causses du Quercy, this city classified as one of the most beautiful in France multiplies magnificent classified sites, from its Carolingian Benedictine abbey to its manors and castles. From Sarlat or Proissans, you can opt for a whole host of outdoor activities such as horse riding, caving, climbing, canyoning or canoeing on the winding meanders of the Dordogne. Also, after having taken the time to digest cabécou, strawberries, morels, ceps, walnuts, chestnuts, fine charcuteries, confits, foie gras and truffles, don't miss out on an adventure in the nearby historic towns: Castelnaud and its castle of Milandes (25 kilometres away), Audrix and its cave of Proumeyssac (33 kilometres away), the castle of Fénelon (18 kilometres away), the Cave of Domme (19 kilometres away), the Gardens of Eyrignac (8 kilometres away), the castle of Commarque (17 kilometres away) and the cave of Lascaux in Montignac (20 kilometres away) will complete your discovery of the region.
