Explore Balaruc les Bains
First spa resort in France, Balaruc-les-Bains is located on a peninsula of the Thau Basin, only a few steps from the Mediterranean. A renowned spa and seaside resort very popular in the Occitania region, this municipality in the Hérault attracts a large number of visitors every year who are curious to taste its gentle lifestyle and beneficial waters under the legendary sun of southern France.
Between the garrigue and the great blue sea, only 7 kilometres from the Sète coast and 29 kilometres from Montpellier, Balaruc-les-Bains is the leading destination for thermal baths on the Mediterranean coast. Also, every year, many people, attracted by the healing properties of the thermal waters of the resort (renowned for their rheumatology and phlebology), come to enjoy its century-old benefits. Balaruc-les-Bains' reputation is not new: as the remains of the Gallo-Roman basilica in Bordes Square testify, the resort has been occupied since the Phoenicians, Carthaginians and Romans. Over the years, Balaruc-les-Bains has seen its reputation grow steadily and finally build, during the 17th and 18th centuries, the Pavillon Sévigné, the very first thermal establishment frequented by Joseph Montgolfier and Napoléon Bonaparte in particular. The "Promenade Georges Brassens - Laurent Spinosi" along the Etang de Thau is an absolute must: 2 kilometres long, between the impasse des Calanques and the port, it offers magnificent views of the Thau basin and the neighbouring villages. A water country, Balaruc-les-Bains is also a seaside resort with many assets. The municipality's three beaches, first of all, are a delight for families who come to relax in complete tranquility. Due to the shallow depth of the pond and the warmth of its waters, swimming is perfect for the youngest. Not far from the casino, you will find the "Plage des Hespérides": away from the city centre, it is the wildest of all but not the most pleasant, but it will guarantee holidaymakers seeking peace and quiet moments of beautiful tranquility. In its extension, you will find the "Plage des Rives", and finally the main beach of the station called "Plage du Poste de Secours". Worshipped by families for its setting and beautiful pedestrian walkway, it is the only beach in the resort to be monitored. Finally, the pond is the ideal place for water sports: you can row, scuba dive, pedal boat, windsurf, optimist, sea kayak, funboat, paddle, boat trips, catamaran or sail to discover the smallest secrets of the Thau basin, from its oyster parks to its most beautiful cities, such as Sète, Marseillan, Bouzigues and Mèze.
Thanks to its scrubland, its vineyards and its pond, Balaruc-les-Bains is rich in tasty and gourmet cuisine. Impossible to leave without having tasted the famous "Berlandises" of the "Cure Gourmande" confectionery, a local speciality adored by young and old alike! Finally, on the menu of most Balaruc restaurants, you will find many fish and seafood dishes, such as Bouzigues oyster in particular and mussels from the Thau lagoon.

Take the shuttle boat from Balaruc to Sète: the captain and his foam are very nice. Also to be recommended: bar restaurant "Les Voiles" (at the entrance of the pond).
