In the heart of the Hérault Valley, Gignac is the perfect place to pack your bags for a sunny stay. About forty kilometres from the sea and the Thau Pond, this small town rich in tradition will delight travellers in search of charm and calm.

Watered by the Hérault, the village of Gignac enjoys a generous cultural and architectural heritage. At the bend of its beautiful alleys, doors and elaborate facades will surprise you with their delicacy. Start your visit to Gignac with the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce church: built with its oratories on a site whose origins go back to the time of the Roman goddess Vesta, this Florentine style church is known to be a sanctuary of miracles, conducive to exceptional healing. If it is worth a visit, it is also for its superb panoramas: overlooking the town, it will allow you to contemplate views of the wooded valleys surrounding Gignac and the Montpellier road. Further on, the Sarrazine Tower is the only evidence of the city's former Roman Castrum. Dating from the early 11th century, this majestic square tower, visible from all over the city, recalls the importance of Gignac in the Middle Ages. In the heart of the village, the Clock Tower is one of the only remains of Gignac's defence arsenal. In the vicinity of the latter, the Grand-rue and its 17th century facades are worth a visit, as is the former convent of the Sisters of Notre-Dame, the Palace of Justice, the Hospices and the Hôtel de Laurès, which are among the most beautiful in the city. Pass by Saint Peter's Square to discover its church with its majestic organ, by Saint-Michel Street, the Castellas Tower, the Place du Commandant Mestre to see its washhouse and the remains of the ramparts, then stop at Place de la Victoire. The most lively district of Gignac, you will find every Saturday morning a large market where you can discover the flavours of local cuisine. Then continue on to Place du Planol to see the Maison Navas and its splendid façade carved with plant motifs, and then walk along Rue de la Cour and the Pont de Gignac: built at the very end of the 18th century, this imposing bridge spanning the river with its three arches will offer you beautiful views.

Here, traditions have been rooted for hundreds of years, and the inhabitants are very attached to their local customs. Every year, on Ascension Day, Gignac celebrates its "Donkey Martin" on the occasion of the Donkey Festival. The "Sénibelet" is also part of regional folklore, as is the dance hall and the tambourine game.

Whether you are walking or cycling, there are many walks waiting for you if it is in Gignac that you choose to settle down for your holidays. The Gignac canal, the dam on the Meuse, but also the banks of the Hérault are perfect sites for family excursions. The river is also ideal for sporting activities: kayaking, canoeing, fishing, paddling, swimming... According to your wishes! Not far away, less than thirty minutes away, Lac du Salagou is a peaceful place that will satisfy nature lovers: a swimming spot, it is one of the most beautiful lakes in France, surrounded by its red valleys. The area is ideal for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, swimming and water sports. Finally, if it is the sea that captivates your hearts, you should know that the beaches of the Mediterranean are only 45 minutes by car from Gignac.
