Calella de Palafrugell is considered to be one of the most beautiful villages in Catalonia thanks to its coves, wooden boats and whitewashed houses. You will love to get lost in its labyrinth of cobbled streets, meeting the inhabitants and craftsmen who make Calella one of the most important cultural capitals of the region. One of the city's most popular monuments is located in the "Port Bo" district : its promenade by the sea is covered with astonishing white vaulted arches, called "Las Vueltas". It is also the ideal place to have a refreshment on the terrace, facing the sea. To the south of Calella, you can visit an imposing palace of incredible beauty: dating from 1927, the Castle of Cap Roig has been declared "Cultural property of national interest". Its garden is one of the most sumptuous botanical gardens in the Mediterranean, thanks to its wide variety of plants and flowers, but also because of its panoramic view of the coast. Divided into several terraces leading to the sea, it is a place for daydreaming and contemplation.
To enjoy Calella's long sunny days, visit its beaches. Along its Mediterranean coast are scattered numerous coves of fine sand, all more fascinating than the other. The "Camino de Ronda" is a walking, cycling or horse-riding trail that connects the various towns and coves along the coastline, allowing you to discover all the magnificence of these breathtaking landscapes. The beaches of "En Calau" and "Port Bo" will be perfect for family sunny afternoons. This last one (also called "Platja de las Barques" because of the small coloured boats which mark out its seaside) will amaze you thanks to its rocky seabed and its transparent waters, paradise of the divers. The "Playa del Port de Malaspina" is a beach with white houses and is recommended for families because of its shallow waters. Very busy, it will perhaps be complicated for you to make a place on its golden sand, unless you come early in the morning to enjoy the calm and the panorama of the Mediterranean. Nestled between the rocks, south of Calella, is the'Playa del Port Pelegri'. Its fine sand and the presence of many nautical activities such as sailing, diving or catamaran make it the meeting place for those for whom holidays are inseparable from the practice of outdoor sports (or open sea in this case). More surprising still, the beach of "El Golfet" : wild and quite far from the center of Calella, it is certainly one of the most beautiful beaches of the Costa Brava. Its red rocks contrast superbly with its turquoise waters, its abundant vegetation and its white sand. Protected from the winds, this picturesque cove is the ideal place for afternoons of idleness in the middle of nature.
Due to its Mediterranean climate, Calella de Palafrugell is a village that can be visited all year round. Enjoying mild winters and hot summers, it is the scene of a multitude of festivals and offers a very varied cultural program : Attend the "Garoinada" (sea urchin festival) in January, the very disguised Spring Festivals (Fiestas de Primavera) in May, but also numerous music festivals in June and August, as well as a jazz festival and the "Jornadas Gastronomicas de Es Nui" (gastronomic days where the "Es Nui", a typical regional dish, is eaten) in October.

The restaurant "Le Calau" (tapas) is excellent! The coastal paths (example: between Calella and LLafranc) are worth a visit. The botanical garden is superb.
