Ah, Castellane... In the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, the quiet village of Castellane is a real little paradise on earth. Situated at an altitude of 724 metres in the heart of the wonderful Verdon Regional Nature Park, on the Route Napoléon and the Lavender Routes, Castellane is one of the most beautiful gateways to the Verdon Gorges. Poetically set in a privileged environment, the town centre of Castellane is organised around the Marcel Sauvaire square, from which flows a whole series of small pedestrian and commercial streets perfect for a shopping break or a coffee on the terrace. In terms of heritage, the 18th century Château d'Éoulx decorated with gypseries, but also the Pont du Roc, the Saint-Victor church, the Tour Pentagonale, not forgetting the Porte des Pétardiers and the Porte de l'Horloge are worth a visit. Our advice? Head for the Notre-Dame du Roc chapel, which you can reach after walking along the remains of the wall that surrounded the town in the 14th century. From the chapel, in addition to the beautiful architecture of the building, what catches the visitor's attention is the incredible panorama over the whole town, the ramparts, the Napoleon bridge and the entrance to the Gorges du Verdon, which is astonishing by day as it is at sunset.

Castellane is a nature lover's paradise, with many natural sites perfect for hiking or cycling. The Roc, which dominates the town, is one of Castellane's must-sees, rising to an altitude of 930 metres. It offers divine views of THE local star: the Verdon! The largest listed site in the department, the Gorges du Verdon are impressive both for the richness of their biodiversity and for the incredible landscapes they contain. Our recommendation? Take the "Blanc-Martel" trail that runs through the Gorges du Verdon to discover its poetic canyons and the vultures that have taken up residence in the area! In terms of activities, you can practice many water sports such as rafting, canoeing, canyoning, but also hydrospeed, via ferrata and the adventure course. Don't miss swimming in the Verdon, or the Lake of Castillon, famous for its delicious emerald colour, and the Lake of Sainte-Croix, known for being one of the most beautiful lakes in France. Catamaran, kayak, but also hang-gliding, squash, paragliding, windsurfing, pedal-boating, fishing, or even aqua-hiking, lazing under the sun and swimming in dreamy waters will give this Provencal stay a little taste of adventure!
