A charming little village in the heart of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Uvernet-Fours continues to attract travellers looking for a change of scenery in the heart of the mountains. Between skiing, hiking and relaxation, this is the perfect destination for a sporty and rejuvenating holiday.
Perched at an altitude of 1180 metres on the road to the Cayolle pass, Uvernet-Fours is 4 kilometres from the famous Barcelonnette. Formerly known for its silk spinning industry, the town is nowadays adored by sportsmen thanks to its famous ski resort of Pra-Loup. Uvernet-Fours is a small village in Provence and has all the assets, starting with a marked gastronomic heritage. On the menu of your tastings, Sisteron lamb, IGP wines from the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, cheeses from the Ubaye valley, tourtons, charcuterie such as fumeton, Provence honey and génépi among others will delight all taste buds.
After these generous culinary discoveries, we'll move on to the architectural heritage of the town. Rich in numerous monuments and other historical sites, Uvernet-Fours has a vast religious heritage such as the splendid 17th century church of Saint-Laurent-de-Fours. The chapel of Saint-Marc, the chapel of Sainte-Anne, those of Saint-Jean-Baptiste and Saint-Jacques complete this visit.
But the town also has a whole bunch of remarkable natural sites to discover. To do this, we recommend that you put on your trainers and a cap: here, it climbs, and the sun gives! From the Col d'Allos to the Col de la Moutière, via the Col de la Cayolle, the magnificent Lac l'Allos, the Pont de la Corbière, the gorges of the Torrent des Agneliers and those of the Bachelard, the Vallon de Fours and the Grande Séolane (2,909 metres above sea level), There are a lot of hiking itineraries waiting for you, from the most quiet to the most sportive, with each time wonderful panoramas on the peaks of the Mercantour National Park and, if you are lucky, some encounters with the wild fauna (marmots) which lives peacefully in the mountains. Finally, it is impossible not to mention the wonderful ski resort of Pra-Loup: in all, there are more than 180 kilometres of downhill ski runs waiting for you, spread out between 1500 and 2500 metres in altitude. In detail, you will find 48 slopes (17 blue, 6 green, 22 red and 3 black) served by a large number of ski lifts. In addition, this family resort has a kindergarten, several toboggan runs, a large snowpark, three boardercrosses, a myriad of mountain bike trails accessible during the summer, and a multitude of restaurants to find a little comfort after the effort.
