In the Ardèche department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Saint-Germain is a little nugget for those who dream of authenticity, tranquility and green vacations. A few steps away from the meandering Ardèche river, 23 kilometers from the famous town of Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, 30 minutes from the Rhone Valley and 20 kilometers from the Chauvet Cave, this ancient medieval village located on the Roman road linking Alba to Arles, sees its origins go back to very ancient times. From the construction of the Roman road, a military milestone and a Roman bridge still remain today, but most of the most illustrious buildings date from the 19th century. From this period, beautiful volcanic stones of the Coiron and worked limestones remain today. A little anecdote, Sant-Germain can boast of having the highest bell tower in the whole Ardèche! Cut down by order of Richelieu after the revolt of Roure, it was rebuilt at the end of the 19th century by the inhabitants themselves.

Formerly known for its worm breeding, the village is now a small nature paradise which delights hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts, but also wine lovers thanks to a very varied range of wines which will delight the taste buds of epicures. Our advice? Take the time to walk or cycle through the village and discover its countryside! Follow the course of the river Auzon, in which you can fish or take a dip on hot summer days! Moreover, the nearby Ardèche is THE place to be! On foot, by car or by bike, discover the banks of the Ardèche which offer many beautiful places to hike, picnic, fish, or swim. In the Saint-Germain area, the Lussas animal park is not to be missed by the whole family, as is the Aquaparc Le Pommier which is ideal for fun and refreshing breaks with the family. And on the nature side, the Rochecolombe waterfall, the extraordinary Cirque de Gens, the Grotte de la Madeleine, or the Pont d'Arc are must-sees! To discover the Pont d'Arc and the gorges of the Ardèche, there is nothing better than a small excursion in canoe or kayak! And to finish, take advantage of your vacations in Saint-Germain to visit the Grotte Chauvet, a marvellous cave decorated in the Paleolithic period which will delight the young and old, curious and caving enthusiasts.
