Saales, in the department of Bas-Rhin, is certainly one of the little-known pearls of the Grand-Est region. Capital of the district of Molsheim, this Alsatian town just on the border of the Vosges Mountains flourishes in the heart of the region's mountains, between 517 and 831 metres above sea level.

Close your eyes and imagine: like a postcard setting, the village church stands out above the trees, its point pointing towards the bright blue sky. Behind it, as if straight out of a masterpiece, the mountain, with the Solamont towering over the village of Saales from its 809 metres high. Soothing and captivating, the village of Saales tirelessly invites you to come and explore its alleys full of history. If most of the houses are traditional, some beautiful houses with wooden shutters typical of the mountain landscape also dot the alleys of Saales, on the side of the Grand'Rue and its emblematic and imposing Saint-Barthélemy church. Not far from the latter, the Halles de l'Hôtel de Ville (Town Hall Market) is a must see: in this warm place, epicureans and other gourmets will be able to fill up every Friday of the summer with delicacies from mountain produce. Wines, fruits (such as wild blueberries), vinegars, cheeses, dairy products, trout and salted meats, so many delicacies that will garnish your plates during your stay. After a trip to the market, it is impossible to miss the fountains of Saales. And there are many of them, as the town has no less than 26, making Saales a water town par excellence. Sometimes animal drinking troughs, washing machines or swimming pools, they have been telling the story of the town for centuries now, and can be discovered both in the heart of the village and in the surrounding valleys, making for lovely family strolls.

Hiking is the queen activity of your holidays in Saales. Equipped with good shoes, whether you are a pedestrian or a cyclist, you will be able to walk quietly on the Saales plateau and its small mountains full of history. Go through the Montagne de Lune, hurtle down the slopes of the Solamont to discover incredible panoramas of the town and the old huts that bear witness to life a long time ago in the area... Climb up to the Sapin Dessus mountain, discover the old 18th and 19th century farms in the heart of the town, the small pond, and the children's rock that offers a magnificent view of the neighbouring valleys from its promontory. The Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg 38 kilometres away is (REALLY) worth the detour for the beauty of its architecture, but also for the absolutely breathtaking landscapes that can be contemplated from its heights over the forests of the Ballons des Vosges, just like the Château de Salm 20 kilometres from Saales, the splendid Donon summit at 34 kilometres which will delight sportsmen as well as lovers of history and photography, when the Pierre-Percée Lake at 38 kilometres west of the village will be perfect for discovering accrobranche, kayak, mini-golf, pedal boat, paddle... For a sporty and refreshing interlude during the summer period!
