In the Bouches-du-Rhône department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur region, the town of Ceyreste is just a few steps from the border with the Var. Bordering on the wonderful seaside resort of La Ciotat, and located about thirty kilometres from the legendary calanques of Marseille, Ceyreste's origins date back to very ancient times. Populated since the Neolithic period, as evidenced by the vestiges of the time found on its land, Ceyreste has largely developed during the Middle Ages, between the 10th and 12th century. After its splendid castle was destroyed at the end of the 16th century, the town rose from its ashes in the 18th and 19th centuries, thanks in particular to its proximity to the port of La Ciotat. For a perfect immersion, take the time to take refuge in the heart of its enclosure, decorated with fortified gates; you will discover during your walks of splendid houses of the XVIIth century which confer a crazy charm to the borough. Here, the houses are old, colorful, and adorned with shutters in pastel shades that give the village an undeniable cachet. In addition, many are the "cabarottes", small covered passages that poetically cap the winding streets of Ceyreste, and complete its postcard decor. In terms of heritage, there are many things to discover, such as the Roman fountain, or the fortified church from the Middle Ages. The church of Saint-Blaise, as it is called, is one of the oldest in the whole of Provence, and is worth a visit for its decorations and its bell tower.

After taking the time to visit the Provençal market (on Friday mornings), let yourself be tempted by a short walk to the Oppidum of the Vallon de Gendame. On foot or by bike, you can walk along the southern slope of the Roquefort hills, or even the small Cauret valley for a few refreshing walks along the river. Take a break in the shade of a terrace to taste the famous "galette ceyrestenne", or the "torque", a kind of brioche flavoured with aniseed and produced in large quantities during the Saint-Blaise festival. Also, do not miss to discover Cassis, La Cadière-d'Azur, Roquefort-la-Bédoule, or La Ciotat. The beaches of Saint-Cyr, Bandol and La Ciotat are only a few steps away, so take advantage of this opportunity to enjoy a quiet break on the Mediterranean!
