Follow in the footsteps of the Lumière brothers, for example, who made one of the very first films in film history in this beautiful city : "The arrival of a train at La Ciotat station". See the Château du Clos des Plages, summer residence of the brothers, and the Eden Theatre, the oldest cinema still open where the Lumière organised a screening in 1895. Then walk along the pedestrian streets of the old town which will reveal pleasant surprises : small squares, sculpted doors dating from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, gardens, old chapels... Among these, take the time to visit the chapel of the Blue Penitents, built in 1626 and classified as a historical monument.
In its magnificent natural setting, La Ciotat will surely encourage you to go on many hikes. Several paths along the coast will allow you to discover exceptional sites such as the calanque and the Mugel park, the calanque of Figuerolles, the promontory of the Notre-Dame chapel and the red ochre cliff which rises more than 300 meters above sea level at the level of the semaphore of the Bec de l'Aigle.
