In the heart of the Alpilles Regional Natural Park, Maussane-les-Alpilles has all the assets for a successful holiday. Picturesque, traditional and sunny, this neighbouring commune of Les Baux-de-Provence is the perfect place for authentic stays.

Maussane-les-Alpilles is first of all a cultural destination: marked with the seal of Provence, this small village in the vallée des Baux has many sites to visit. Its museum of the Santons, its 18th century Sainte-Croix church, its chapel of Montblanc (18th century), but also the Château Querry (19th century) and the Château de Saint Roman are to be seen during your stay. Maussane also has many oratories, wash houses and refreshing fountains, such as the fountain of the 4 Seasons located on Place Laugier de Monblan. Built at the very end of the 19th century, it is one of Maussane's most important sites and one of the local pride. Take the time to stroll through the old town of Maussane to discover the Hôtel particulier du Dr Quenin, the rue de la Reine Jeanne and the residences with their colourful shutters. For a rural and bucolic stroll, take the path of the Chemin des Batignoles: located on an old railway track, this hiking and cycling route links the Place du Marché to the old Maussane.

In addition to the architectural heritage of Maussane-les-Alpilles, there is also its cultural heritage. Inseparable from local history, olive oil is a true religion in the village: during your visit, you can discover its many olive groves as well as the remains of its 12 oil mills. Nowadays, the town, the first oil-producing city in France, still has 2 mills in operation for more than 37000 olive trees. It will be impossible for you to stay there without tasting it: on a piece of fresh bread, on goat cheese, on tomatoes, in a marinade or simply raw, olive oil can be enjoyed at any time of the day. The "route de l'olivier" will allow you to discover all the most beautiful olive-growing landscapes of Provence, shaped by hundreds of years of Mediterranean tradition, from Maussane-les-Alpilles to Mouriès via Fontvieille.

As for gastronomy, in addition to olives and their derivatives, Maussane gives pride of place to products, it is said, "sun-drenched". On the occasion of its traditional market (every Thursday morning Henri Giraud beach), you can find on the colourful stalls rosemary and lavender honey, garlic, fig and lemon jam, but also the PDO wines "Baux de Provence" or "IGP Alpilles", tapenades, goat cheese and fish that make the reputation of Provençal gastronomy.

After idleness and terraced glasses, if there is one queen activity in Maussane, it is hiking: from the old marshes of the Beaux aux Baux de Provence via Fontvieille (6 kilometres), Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (12 kilometres), but also Arles (18 kilometres), Salon-de-Provence (24 kilometres), or the Pont du Gard (45 kilometres), you can admire the most extraordinary panoramas that the region has to offer. The Camargue Regional Natural Park is only a few minutes from the village: well known for its breathtaking landscapes, lush vegetation and wildlife, the Camargue is one of Provence's most precious jewels. Wild horses, flamingos, bulls, ponds as far as the eye can see, saltworks, manades... You can discover all the most beautiful faces of this protected site during hikes (hiking, horseback riding, cycling or river trips). Finally, for the irrepressible desire to dive into the Mediterranean, you can go to Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer (50 minutes by car) to relax on the fine sand of one of the resort's many beaches.
