Halfway between Cavaillon, Arles, Aix-en-Provence and Martigues, Salon-de-Provence is ideally located to discover the most beautiful destinations in Provence. Not far from the Alpilles, the Camargue or the Aix-Marseille region, Salon-de-Provence is dazzling both by the beauty of its heritage and by the splendour of its environment. Start your discovery of this village with a short walk hand in hand in its old heart. Occupied very early in history, Salon-de-Provence experienced a strong dynamism of its territory during the High Middle Ages. Several imposing buildings are the current witnesses of its rich past, such as the Château de l'Emperi. Built in the 10th century at the very top of the Puech Rock by the local Archbishops to establish their authority, this fortified castle reveals to its visitors a massive enclosure made up of numerous towers, dungeons (including the square keep called "Tour de Pierre Cros"), paved courtyards, gardens (including the magnificent Jardin des Simples) and museums, including the "Army Museum" to see absolutely. But your discovery of Salon-de-Provence does not stop there, since the town is full of monuments to see, such as the 12th century Romanesque chapel of Sainte-Catherine, the Saint-Michel church, the imposing collegiate church of Saint-Laurent and its monumental organ. Walk under the Porte de l'Horloge located on the site of the old town's old ramparts, stroll around the Hôtel de Ville square, discover the Porte du Bourg Neuf and its 13th century Black Madonna, the fountain in the Place de la Révolution, the Trez-Castel washhouse, the music stand and Place Louis Blanc, before taking a break from the amazing "Fontaine Moussue" in Place Croustillat, a fountain adorned with a thick green moss, a must in Salon-de-Provence. Take the time to visit Jean XXIII Square, admire the Renaissance imitation window of 35 rue Moulin d'Isnard, the mural fresco of Nostradamus (montée Andrée Viallat) and the Maison de Nostradamus (who spent his old age in the village), at the foot of the Château de l'Empéri. Also take a look around the Quartier des Savonniers: a bourgeois district, born of the commercial boom of the 1880s, it consists of superb villas built during the 19th century, some of which are really worth a visit, such as the Villa Armieux (Château Armieux), the Cercle des Arts et Métiers, the Théâtre Armand, the Hôtel Couderc (avenue du Commandant Sibour) and the Hôtel Roche (boulevard Nostradamus). You will also see old soap factories, including the Marius Fabre soap factory which makes Marseille soap, not to mention the century-old factory of the Rampal Latour soap factory.

Life in Salon-de-Provence is punctuated by many festivities throughout the year: Cinema Meetings in March, Transhumance in April, historical reconstructions in May, night markets during the summer, the Festival d'Art Lyrique in August and other aerial training sessions of the Patrouille de France contribute to the animation of the village.

Nature lovers will also feel at home here, as the Tallagard Massif and Plaine du Crau are dotted with hiking trails, healthy trails and bike paths that will delight sports enthusiasts. Finally, in the surrounding area, we recommend a visit to the Château de la Barben, the Alpilles, the Camargue, Avignon, Marseille, the Etang de Berre or the Luberon Regional Natural Park, for exceptional visits that will certainly make you want to come back and stay in Provence.
