Fancy a holiday in the heart of Provence? Between history, culture, nature and outdoor activities, Trets is, let's face it, always a good idea for a change of scenery for the whole family.

Between the Mont Aurélien and the Sainte-Victoire, the commune of Trets lies on the border of the Var and the Bouches-du-Rhône, where it has flourished since ancient times. In the Community of the Pays d'Aix, Trets is 25 kilometres east of Aix-en-Provence, and about 40 kilometres from the Mediterranean beaches of La Ciotat. If the village is today a dynamic destination much appreciated by sports enthusiasts and other nature lovers, it has nevertheless managed to brilliantly combine its charm and traditions, typical of Provence. To start your visit, nothing better than opting for a short tour in the old medieval village of Trets. Enclosed in the hollow of thick ramparts, the historical heart of Trets has preserved many testimonies of its past. No doubt that you will love strolling through the small winding streets that dot the town, allowing you to discover its splendours. Here, the houses are typical, decorated with stones in warm tones, pastel shutters, the squares are intimate, and the houses are very old since you can find several posh houses revealing beautiful mullioned windows. With the fountains, oratories, ornate portals, arcades and vaulted passages typical of the medieval period (such as the "Lion's Hole"), it is impossible not to marvel at the fortifications of the 12th and 13th centuries and the 5 gates that still exist today. Pass through the Gateway of Pourrières to the west, the Gateway of Saint-Jean, to discover the splendid and imposing church of Notre-Dame de Nazareth built during the 12th century, recognizable by its high unfinished bell tower. The old feudal castle is worth a visit, as is the Place Pailheret for its corbelled house and elegant residences. The Castle of Saint-Michel (in ruins), and the Castle at "La Jolie" are also to be added to the list of your visits. Pass by the very pretty and shady Place du 14 Juillet, lined with century-old plane trees, for a break on the terrace, to fill up on vitamins and delicacies (melons and local wines in particular) before continuing your visit.

For nature lovers, Trets is the place to be. There are many walking routes here, both quiet and sporty, which you can find and explore as you wish. To the north, the Arc plain, to the south, the Regagnas mountain range, the Baoucous (604 metres), the Mont de l'Olympe (703 metres), or the Mont Perdu (815 metres), not forgetting the viewpoint from the chapel of Saint-Jean du Puy (10 kilometres away) are all sites that make the reputation of the village. Wander along the banks of the Arc which rises towards Pourcieux, marvel at the incredible panoramas of Mont Aurélien to the east, and the Montagne de la Sainte-Victoire to the north, hike the GR9... Our advice? Climb up the side of the Hermitage Tower of Saint-Jean-du-Puy (at 658 metres altitude), for a fabulous view of the Arc valley, and take your car to go towards the Mediterranean beaches! Turquoise water, fine sand, lazy sessions and water activities will undoubtedly make your stay perfect!
